Subak is a gem of a restaurant, nestled in the lush greenery of Bukit Lanjan. From their website, I learned that "subak" actually meant the highly intricate and ritualised water irrigation system practised in Bali's rice fields. It is an inspirational tradition of sharing life-giving water that sustain rice terraces in Bali. From the main entrance, we walked up a slope... ...to a sanctuary of tropical flora, where an immaculate lawn provides a green carpet for the beautiful trees and … [Read more...]
My little Greek adventure
This post has been long outstanding. It's been 3 months since my trip to Greece and the photos (thousands of them!) have been lying dormant in my thumb-drive. Amazing how time really flew! I was so caught up with other stuff the past few months, since returning from Greece & Abu Dhabi. There was the New Year, then Chinese New Year and in between, my medical woes.... which hopefully have been settled now.So... there you have up there that beautiful pic of the Acropolis, as seen from our … [Read more...]
Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh in 1Utama
Much had been written and blogged about this Bak Kut Teh joint. Originated from Klang (but of course - Klang is the mecca of BKT after all!) with its mothershop in Taman Berkeley, it has since sprouted several offspring outlets and they are all housed in upmarket malls like Pavillion and now 1 Utama. As 1Utama is just a hop & a skip away from my office and for the longest time there has not been any decent BKT outlet in this mall, I jumped in joy when I heard that there's now a reputable … [Read more...]
My Sushi-making Experience
Anyone suffering from post-CNY syndrome? Trust everyone had a roaringly hot CNY! I'm still too full-up from all the merry making and eating sessions to do much blogging - haha, yeah - excuses, excuses!Just a couple of weeks before the CNY, I attended a Sushi class at The Cooking House, after hearing so much good things about this place, especially from FBB, who teaches there too! I know making sushi is a no-brainer to some of you and I've been a sushi fan for ages... so much so that I thought … [Read more...]
Uncle Chilli’s – New Dinner Menu!
Uncle Chilli's in PJ Hilton has been around since the 90's - famed for its fun atmosphere and live bands. Truly it was the place to "be seen" back then. I haven't been to Uncle Chilli's for some time and a couple of weeks back when I was there, the place has been totally revamped. It now looks more contemporary spotting some sleek shiny decor - quite different from the Uncle Chilli's of before! I must say I do like the new retro set-up :-)It's tagline "The Place Where U Belong" entices one … [Read more...]
LAZY me
I am back!Yeah, I know I have not blogged for more than a month - anybody missed me?! Blame that on my travels, medical issues but ultimately I guess I have just been lazy for a while. It's funny... sometimes when you stop doing something (which you usually love), it takes a while for the "mood" and "inspiration" to resume.I have loads of photos to plough through, download and edit... and I have been lazy. Yes - lazy me! I will definitely get down to that soon, so please don't write me off … [Read more...]
Home-made Siew Pau
I have always wanted to try making Siew Paus at home but had never really gotten round to doing it. Mostly because I wasn't very sure on how the "oil" and "water" doughs work and the technique of rolling the pastry. There's a certain way of doing that which would result in the thin flaky pastry of the Siew Pau.Then I stumbled upon this blog here which had very clear instructions and photos (yayyy!) on how to fold and roll the pastry. What a godsend! The first time I tried that recipe I found … [Read more...]
Sunshine Chicken & Chef Tam = great combination!
The first time I heard about Sunshine Chicken was through Babe In the City-KL. It was she who introduced and then invited me and some other food bloggers, on behalf of Sunshine Chicken to a sumptuous lunch at Kedai Makanan Chef Tam in Selayang. That occasion was to showcase Sunshine Chicken's chickens, of course, as well as some other dishes courtesy of Jin Chwan Seafood prepared by Chef Tam. Sunshine Chicken has a farm in Kuala Lipis where their chickens thrive on natural food and fresh air … [Read more...]
Rakuzen Subang
Rakuzen Japanese Restaurant 15 Jalan SS15/5A 47500 Subang JayaMention "Rakuzen" only and many people would associate "decent Japanese food" with it. Their outlet in Subang has been in existence for quite a while and we have been there many times but I have yet to blog about it.Rakuzen is extremely popular - and unless you go there very early, you will have to wait for quite a bit if you didn't make any booking! It is wise to book your table early, to avoid disappointment. On the few occasions … [Read more...]
Char-siew @ Famous Seremban Favourites
A couple of weeks ago, there was this char-siew bug which seemed to have bitten some of my colleagues. They were all talking about eating char-siew and where to get the best ones. Some of them went to hunt for one famous shop in Kepong (I didn't go) and for more than a week, char-siew was the main topic when it came to lunch time.I have read so many blog posts about this famous char-siew place in Sunway Mas... so armed with a map found in AWOL's blog, we made our way to...Restoran Famous … [Read more...]
