I have often wondered about the inspiration that must be behind the coining of such a name as "Extra Super Tanker" for this restaurant. How does a super tanker, an extra one too, relate to a restaurant? Hmmm... really food for thought eh?Anyway, this restaurant in Damansara Kim has been around for ages - since 2004 and they have also recently set up another one in Bukit Utama in Bandar Utama.A belated birthday lunch - where shall we eat? That's the question which we face every time we have a … [Read more...]
BMW New 5-Series Launch Event
This post is a bit late. This was the BMW New 5-series Launch event a couple of weeks ago. By now, you would have seen the adverts in the media or probably the car itself in the showrooms and have placed your bookings, or maybe even driving one on the road now.Anyway, having never attended a car launch that came with dinner, I was curious. Yes, dinner. Plus the fact that they tried to make this so exclusive got me even more curious. It was strictly by invitation only wor... and each invitee … [Read more...]
Nam Fatt Ipoh for good "Liews"!
Growing up as a kid in a Chinese new village in Ipoh, I never had much pocket money to spend. In those good old days, 10 sen was a fortune. I remember I was only given that amount as pocket money to spend in school each day. Sometimes I would bring bread or biscuits to school and tried to save my precious 10 sen. You see, back then, 10 sen could buy you a bowl of noodles (5 sen) plus a piece of "liew" (5 sen). What we Ipoh people mean by "liew" is fishpaste-stuffed stuff - eg taufu, beancurd … [Read more...]
Apple Strudel Demo @ Karl’s Beisl
A few weeks ago, I was invited by the Bukit Bintang Girls' School Old Girls Association (BBSG OGA) to a Tea cum Demo on the famed Apple Strudel at Karl's Beisl. The demo was done by the man himself - Karl.Prior to the demo, we had lunch there. LL and DL ordered the Pork Schnitzel after reading the positive review about this earlier. We tried the other version of the schnitzel too - with the mushroom sauce. Both went well with a pint of Hoegaarden! We were ushered up to the Mezzanine Floor where … [Read more...]
A taste of India in Maharaj
Exactly a week ago, I almost fell off my chair when I received a phone call from Eu Hooi Khaw. I mean, come on... Eu Hooi Khaw calling me??! And that call was to invite me to join her for dinner... at a place called Maharaj. The invitation was on behalf of the owner, Mr Ilan Govan who's a close friend of hers. Her directions to the place were: "it's along Jalan Gasing, PJ, in a bungalow lot next to a furniture shop". I had a vague idea of where the restaurant could be. It was a rainy stormy … [Read more...]
I Lost & Found Mr Mak
For the records, let me declare here that I don't simply eat Fish-head Noodles. What I mean is I'd never order that if I walk into any coffee-shop which has Fish-head Noodles in one of the many stalls. Simply because I find that generally most Fish-head Noodles are really not that nice... most of them throw together fried pieces of fish bones that pass off as "fish head" and add copious amounts of milk into the soup presumably to mar the fishy taste (which is not surprising, considering most … [Read more...]
Karl’s Beisl @ Soho, Mont Kiara
I have passed by Karl's Beisl a few times in the past but had never stepped into this place. Through the good connections of my friend, Z, I was invited to review the food here. Not only me, but several other food bloggers were also invited and that was how I spent a long lazy afternoon there sampling the delights that this Austrian-styled restaurant had to offer. The afternoon definitely got lazier (if that's possible) after the good food and company... just read on :-))"Beisl" in Austrian … [Read more...]
Handmade Meesuah @ Beng Shen, Klang
The first time we went in search of this place, we found it but it was closed. On a Sunday. It really wasn't their "official" off-day (that should be a Monday) ... there was a handwritten cardboard hung on the gate stating that they were closed for 5 days. No reason was given. Determined to eat their famed handmade & homemade Meesuah, we made another trip back there 2 weeks later. It's located a bit way out from Klang town, along the main road, Jalan Kapar. Just keep a lookout for it on … [Read more...]
RM1 Chicken @ Canton-i
If you reside in the Klang Valley, you'd probably have eaten at Canton-i or its sister restaurant, Dragon-i. The latter is famous for their Xiao Loong Pau - one of the best you can get around here.Canton-i in 1-Utama is a favourite lunch spot for me as my office is just about 128 steps from the place. Both Canton-i and Dragon-i are having a "RM1 Chicken" dish promotion, in appreciation of their customers, or so they say lah. It sounds good, right? They've put up some posters & stuff … [Read more...]
Peng Heong Hakka Paikut
Last weekend we went on a food hunt in Klang, the main target being the highly-publicised Beng Shen Meesuah in Jalan Kapar. However, when we reached that place, to our dismay, it was closed! Closed for some reason - probably they went for a holiday after the super busy Chinese New Year. A handwritten sign on the gate informed that they'd only be open from 25 March. Anyway, we made a U-turn and headed back to Klang town - this time for the famed Peng Heong Hakka Paikut! We easily found the … [Read more...]
