Kuchai Lama is one place I seldom venture to but I’ve heard some good things about this Papasan Canteen. Located in the Kuchai Lama Business Centre area where parking is quite a challenge, this eatery has been garnering raves in social media for their local-Japanese fusionistic offerings.
Their signature Omu Curry Rice with fried chicken is extremely popular as we saw almost every table had this. Diners can opt for 3 or 5 pieces of the huge-sized fried chicken – we opted for 3 pieces as we wanted to try other dishes on the menu. 3 pieces crispily-fried chicken served with Japanese rice and curry was a very substantial serving!
Omu Curry Rice (with fried chicken 3 pieces RM19, 5 pieces RM22)
More carbs came in the form of Smoked Duck Noodles (RM19) with slices of smoked duck on noodles doused with house-made Bentong ginger oil, fragrant soy sauce and garnished with chicken mince.
Shoga Yaki Beef Rice (RM28) was pure comfort food – rice topped with sliced beef, sweet yellow onions and onsen egg. We enjoyed the fresh umami-ness of their Bili Bara Don (RM28) – a Chirashi bowl with salmon, crabmeat, mango, radish, seaweed and tobiko.
We also ordered several items to share…
Hot Sizzling Oysters (RM26)
Softshell Crab Salad (RM26)
Papasan Roll (RM27)
Inari Unagi (RM20)
Inari Salmon (RM20)
Generally, food here was satisfactory, with a few stand-out items, like their fried chicken and Japanese rolls.
Sugar Papa (RM15) Molasses sugar blended with Thai Chattramue Tea and fresh milk with oolong jelly
