Refreshed A La Carte Menu at Toh Yuen @ Hilton Petaling Jaya
To satisfy the most discerning diners, it is a common practice for restaurants to refresh their menus regularly. Toh Yuen Chinese Restaurant of Hilton Petaling Jaya subscribes to this practice diligently and its recently-refreshed menu promises some excitement. Master Chef Lee, the person behind the exercise, retained one main concept from the previous menu in the new dishes: the dishes must be healthy, using only the freshest ingredients and Chinese herbs. From his extensive travel and … [Read more...]

Plates & Bottles @ Space U8 Shah Alam
To be frank, I have never heard of this mall called Space U8 in Shah Alam. Well, not until I went to check out this restaurant called Plates and Bottles which is housed inside this mall. Just a bit of info on Space U8: It is the first Eco Mall in Malaysia, located in Bukit Jelutong. This huge mall is built on a hybrid concept of dual frontage featuring shop offices on the outer frontage and an inner façade for retail outlets. The central courtyard in the mall is humongous, perfect for … [Read more...]
Bubbalicious @ Prego, The Westin Kuala Lumpur
It used to be known as the "Sunday Bubbly Brunch" ... a very popular affair at Prego in The Westin Kuala Lumpur. Recently, it has been rebranded as "Bubbalicious", in line with the concept featured in over 5 different Westins throughtout Asia Pacific. I was privileged to attend the launching of Bubbalicious recently. Bubbalicious gives a whole new meaning to bubbly brunches as diners will be induced into the mood by Bubbalicious’ own signature bubble girls who will meet you in the lobby! … [Read more...]
Ramadhan Bazaar @ Paya Serai, Hilton Petaling Jaya
Now, I like how Hilton Petaling Jaya has labeled their Buka Puasa buffet as “Ramadhan Bazaar”. It is so apt. The whole Paya Serai is like a bustling gourmet bazaar! There is food laid out in every corner… and I do mean every corner and aisle and turning. Well, you can’t blame them for maximizing every square metre because this extravagant spread has more than 100 local as well as international delights. What’s more – the buffet menu is on rotation every day so there is always something new … [Read more...]
Spectacular Ramadhan Buffet @ Mosaic, Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur
I never fail to get a bit awed whenever I step into Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur’s all-day dining restaurant, Mosaic. The place breathes elegant classiness and contemporary chic-ness at the same time, while reflecting the Peranakan culture, as its theme. The high ceilings, distinctive vibrant flooring, the intricate hanging pewter lights, the bespoke mosaic walls and the ornate chandeliers over the desserts counter always make me pause a while in admiration, no matter how many times I have … [Read more...]

Buka Puasa Seenak Warisan Ibunda at Empire Hotel Subang
The holy month of Ramadhan has just started last weekend and we are now in the first week of the fasting month. Even before the dawning of Ramadhan, many hotels have already launched their special Buka Puasa buffets. The earliest invitation I received was from Empire Hotel Subang to check out their special buffet spread at their Kitchen Art Brasserie. Diners get to feast on wholesome home-style dishes here. From the array of traditional and kampong-style dishes, there are more than 50 … [Read more...]
Celestial Court’s New Dim Sum
I always find that the Dim Sum portions served in Celestial Court, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur are more than generous. Their “har-kow” and “siew mai” are pretty huge… bigger than what most other dim sum restaurants serve. Not only are they bigger in size, the pork-free ingredients used are always fresh. I have yet to taste any less-than-satisfactory dim sum in Celestial Court. The fact that no pork is used does not hamper the taste of the dim sum in any way. In fact, Executive Chef Ho Boon … [Read more...]
