From 1 August till 30 September 2012, Toh Yuen Chinese Restaurant of Hilton Petaling Jaya celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival with a new range of robustly flavoured Snowskin selections and premium Baked Mooncakes.
Master Chef Lee’s creative array of snowskin mooncakes come with soft pillowy skin, velvety fillings and interesting flavours. I tried quite a variety of them and my favourites are the ones with Lotus Paste & Sunflower Seeds, Green Tea & Cheese Cake for a western twist and the Pumpkin & Pandan. Red Bean & Banana sounds a bit odd but surprisingly the combination works pretty well. Yam lovers (like me) would love the Yam Paste & Strawberry combo. Of course my all-time favourite is the Snowskin Mooncake with Durians – the durian paste is luscious and creamy and oh-so-duriany!
The golden Baked Mooncakes are appealing and the evergreen favourites are the White Lotus Paste with Single Yolk, Lotus Paste with Double Yolks, Green Tea Paste with Single Yolk, Red Bean Paste with Sunflower Seeds, Pandan Paste with Single Yolk and Assorted Nuts. My favourites are the Pandan Paste Single Yolk and Assorted Nuts. The mooncakes are not overly sweet and I like the fresh crunchy walnuts, almonds, cashews and sunflower seeds in the Assorted Nuts mooncakes.
The handcrafted mooncakes are elegantly packaged in Oriental-themed boxes in 3 vibrant colors – red and black, turquoise and green. Fashioned like an antique jewellery box, there are 2 drawers with brass-like latches … use them to keep your accessories after the mooncakes are gone!
The snowskin mooncake is priced at RM13+ each while the baked mooncake is at RM22+ each. If you buy 100 and above boxes, you get a 10% discount. Prices are subject to 6% government tax for take-away and an additional 10% service charge applies to dine-in orders.
