25 days, 130 chefs, 210 spices, 800 dishes, 1200 ingredients and a million smiles – this is the promise from Westin Kuala Lumpur.
Led by Malay Chef Hamdan, the culinary experts at The Living Room (a halal-certified restaurant) at The Westin Kuala Lumpur are cooking up a spectacular spread of local favourites coupled with Western favourites.
Begin breaking your fast with Zam Zam water and sweet dates. The Westin Kuala Lumpur brings in the Zam Zam water all the way from Saudi Arabia specially for its Santapan Ramadhan. The Zam Zam well is located within the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. According to Islamic belief, it is a miraculously-generated source of water from God. Muslims believe that the Zam Zam well is a contemporary miracle, never having gone dry despite the millions of litres of water attributed to the well consumed every year.
Move on to the starters counters next…kerabus, rojak, pickles, flavoured crackers, salted eggs and fish. There are also seafood on ice: oysters, crabs, shrimps, mussels served with at least 5 types of sauces. This is also the only place where I had Kerang Rebus (steamed cockles)! A huge bamboo basket of these cockles were steaming with some lemongrass stalks with a pot of special spicy chilli dip next to it.
Rice and hot dishes are the centre of all Ramadhan buffets. I was totally bowled over by the many bamboo buckets with various types of rice steaming inside. Take your pick from the Westin Briyani, Nasi Dagang, Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Lemak, Nasi Kunyit and to accompany this, there are pots and woks of curries and gulai. Rendang Paru, Sambal Goreng Jawa, Gulai Kawah – these are just some of the popular dishes.
There are also the grill counter where you can get fish, squids, prawns and mussels grilled and served with various dips and sambals. Drop by the Indian stall for a wide array of tandoori meats, naans, chutneys and rotis. Other stations with live cooking will serve you char kway teow and kuih kak.
Something different to tempt you here is the Tacos counter – 5 different tacos for your selection: beef, seafood, chicken, cheese and sweet.
The desserts are served in a separate room, specially crafted to house the wide selection of sweets. From ice kachang to icecream sandwiches, from Malay kuihs to Indian sweets… I can’t blame you if you can’t decide between those or the chocolate ganache cake, fudgy cashewnut brownies, cherry cheesecake of the red velvet cake… and even more!
