It’s been about 8 months since we were last at The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa. When we were there in August last year, the resort was about to embark on its refurbishment program. Please read my earlier post on this beautiful resort here.
Set in an idyllic natural retreat of the island, adorned with an exclusive beach front location up to 500 metres, The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa is strategically located just 20 minutes from the Langkawi International Airport by car and within 1 km of the Jetty Point. When we revisited this gorgeous resort recently, it felt like coming back to a well-loved sanctuary. The moment we stepped into its cool interior with a light breeze blowing in from the open sea beyond, it’s like we left a hundred stress points outside, especially when they served us our favourite welcome drink: Apple Cinnamon White Tea!

Generally the resort still looked the same as the first-phase refurbishment took place in the rooms. When we got the keys to our room, we felt as excited as kids being given keys to a secret hideaway… we were so eager to see how the “new” room would look!
The corridor leading to the refurbished rooms has also been given a new look. New carpet with an interesting geometric marine design pave the corridor and polished metallic pillars echoing the same marine design mark every room.
When we entered our Deluxe Ocean View Room, we couldn’t help gasping at the transformation.
The room now spotted a brighter, more cheery look with lots of white replacing the sombre darker wood panelling and furniture before. There’s now a huge wall hanging, with the same marine-themed design hanging above the white bed and the light fittings are now ultra-modern with clean lines. The old dark wood panellings have all given way to cheery whites, resulting in a room that breathes spaciousness and airiness. I love the splashes of orange in the armchair and the vermillion throw-cushions with ethnic designs.
Two things that didn’t change though, are the cheeky monkeys grabbing our pillows and the splendid view from our balcony!
The bathroom has also been given a new lease… new tiles and brand new shower facilities…all very contemporary which makes bath time a great experience! No complaints whatsoever.
The F&B outlets at the resort remain very much the same as refurbishment of these outlets will take place at a later stage. So, our dining at Seasonal Tastes, Tide and Breeze was like revisiting dining pleasures at old friends’ places.
Seasonal Tastes – bright and cheerful
At Seasonal Tastes, we were treated to scrumptious healthy breakfasts daily, whether from their regular buffet selection or from their SuperFoods-focused menu. SuperFoods are known for being health-enhancing and rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients – the main ingredient in Westin signature dishes. This initiative, which has rolled out in Westin hotels is now the Westin Signature Breakfast- a SuperFoods breakfast selection that is offered at Westin properties.
At Seasonal Tastes, buffet breakfast is served until 12.00pm, giving us lots of time to laze in their Heavenly Beds!
Of course, in addition to breakfasts, we also checked out some of their lunch offerings in their a la carte menu:
SuperFoods Garden Bowl
Tomatoes & Feta Cheese Salad
Chipotle Chicken Taco
Sesame Chicken
Standing Lamb Chops
Grilled Barracuda Fillet
Duck Confit
Club Sandwich
Sweet Amuse
Tiramisu
The Breeze Lounge beckoned with its deep plush couches. On the night when we dined there, they observed Earth Hour and we all got to dine by candlelight. Prior to dinner, we had our share of cocktails and martinis served from the open bar. We ordered several dishes for sharing like the Long Pizza and Mixed Seafood Platter. Of course we couldn’t resist having their steaks, remembering the delightful steaks we had here in our first visit.
Mixed Seafood Platter for sharing
However, we were quite dismayed that they have changed their serving style of steaks to Bento Box style! Our sirloin and ribeye steaks came all cut up into small pieces and piled into lacquer bento boxes! Oh no!
Not only were we deprived the pleasure of cutting our own steaks, the pieces served were cold and quite dry. Worse, my order was overcooked – my “Medium” preference came “Well done” … I had to send it back and they got it right the second time round.
Tide Restaurant remains as charming as before. In our first visit here we had dinner, this time round we decided to lunch there instead, just to have a daylight feel of the place.
The elegantly casual interior is beautiful, with lots of wooden and rattan furniture and fittings. The high beamed ceilings allows maximum fresh air and sea breeze to blow through the whole restaurant.
Of course, there’s also the option to dine at the terrace, overlooking the pristine beach.
With a view like this, it’s such an incentive to order more food!
And that was precisely what we did… food, food and more food!
Chicken Liver Pate
We ordered a combination of their Mediterranean and Asian dishes – those are, after all, Tide’s specialities!
Chicken & Beef Satay
Steak & Pasta
Seafood Pasta
We love The Westin Langkawi for its good selection of great dining outlets, the beautiful landscaped grounds which this resort resides, the friendly staff and of course the wholesome rejuvenating experience of the Westin Journey! We would definitely love to be back again, if only just to sink into blissful sleep in their Heavenly Beds!
Here are some shots of the resort taken at dusk… those brief magical moments when the sun disappeared beyond the horizon and when complete darkness has not quite enveloped the air, yet…
