Did you know that the Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa is the first hotel establishment in the legendary island of Langkawi? Well, back then in 1973 it was first known as the Langkawi Country Club. It was later converted to the Langkawi Island Resort and then to the Sheraton Perdana Resort in 1995. After a major renovation and rebranding exercise, the Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa officially opened on 19 December 2006. It is also the first Westin resort in Malaysia.
The moment we drove through the main gates leading to the resort, we felt we have been immediately transported into a luxurious sanctuary. The lush abundant greenery and blissful surroundings of the resort were such a delightful welcome and respite from our usual busy stressed-up lives. We fell in love with the beautiful foliage surrounding the extensive resort.
Checking in at the Reception is a breeze. Within a few minutes, the warm friendly staff gave us our room cards and ushered us to the Breeze Lounge where we met up with our lovely host, Kiran Hans. Sipping on the refreshing Apple Cinnamon White Tea, Kiran gave us a quick introduction of the Resort. You must try this gorgeous white tea – it became our favourite drink at the resort!
The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa spots a traditional Minangkabau (big house) clay roof style. The architecture, construction, internal and external décor reflects the culture and value of the “Big House” concept … yes, we can’t deny that everywhere we went, we really felt like we were in a big big house that meanders all over the grounds. We love the elegant simplicity of the interior design which maximises the many natural elements: using cross ventilation, shading from sun and rain, the natural flow of interior space to exterior spaces and the abundance of natural lighting everywhere.
Nestled amongst 104 acres of tropical beauty, the resort is divided into two portions: 202 rooms and suites are located at the East & West wings with lush landscaped gardens. The resort’s main building is built in co-existence with its lobby and open terraces cascading down various levels, all facing the stunning Andaman Sea and nearby isles. On the other end of the property lies the ultra luxurious resort villas.
There are 16 units of 1-bedroom ocean-view villas and 3 units of 2-bedrooms super luxurious villas. All the stylish villas come with their own private pools – that is really unabashed luxury. We had a chance to peep into one of these awesome abodes and it took our breath away.
The understated grace and elegance of the villa, if one can afford it, will truly recharge all your batteries after a stay here! Besides the private infinity pool, with a bale benggong thrown in too, there is even a special designated area with a massage bed for private spa treatments.
Oh by the way, there is also this ultimate 5-bedroom one-of-a-kind private ocean view villa set apart from the rest which I shudder even to think of asking for the price for a night’s stay!
Our Deluxe Ocean View Room comes with Westin’s signature products such as their iconic Heavenly Bed and Heavenly Rain Shower/bath as well as a 42” plasma tv, DVD player and high speed internet. Yes, the king-sized bed is truly heavenly, that I can tell you. After checking into the room, we meant to go for a walk and a swim (the resort has 4 inviting swimming pools!) after a little nap. Guess what – we never made it for that walk or swim… because the moment my head touched those fluffy feathery-light pillows and my body sank into that heavenly bed, I fell fast asleep and by the time I woke up, it was already dinner time! That’s the power of the heavenly bed.
During our stay here, we got to taste and experience the resort’s outlets:
- Seasonal Tastes: All-day dining restaurant
- Breeze: Chic lounge, bar and restaurant
- Tide: Indoor & al-fresco dining on the beach
- Spa by Night: Private dining by the Heavenly Spa by Westin
- Heavenly Spa by Westin
Look out for more upcoming posts on the above experiences!
