Come weekends, you can now head on over to The Gastro Project in Section 17 Petaling Jaya for a long lazy meal, aka Brunch! Since the brunch trend hit the scene here in the Klang Valley, cafes and restaurants have jumped onto the bandwagon trying to outdo each other in coming out with the best brunch offerings. One of the latest restaurants to do that is The Gastro Project (read my earlier review of the place here). The brunch menu is not really extensive, there are only 11 items on it, … [Read more...]
Sunday Curry Tiffin Lunch @ The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur
Tiffin carriers go back a long way with me. I have the fondest memories of those round enamel carriers all stacked up and secured with a metal handle. In those round containers were dishes cooked by my mom. Back then we could only afford the most basic of the carriers, those pale yellow plain ones. So, yeah, whenever I see tiffin carriers, it brings back memories of those stacked happiness many years ago. Plush, elegant and comfortable - my camera loves these angles! Actually, the word … [Read more...]
Ante – upping the porky stakes with their all-new Brunch!
I’ve heard much about Ante Kitchen & Bar – how they’ve been creating waves in the dining scene in Solaris with signature dishes such as the Char Grilled Pork Steak and Sweet Belly (both of which I have yet to taste). The good news is that Ante has once again raised the stakes with their newly-introduced all-new Brunch Menu. Pork lovers will be happy to note that the Brunch Menu doesn’t stinge on porky bites either. Of course, where bacon and sausages are mentioned, only the real … [Read more...]
A flaming feast at CHARCOAL @ The Saujana
I just can’t help but be charmed by the lovely open grill restaurant aptly named Charcoal at The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Set amidst lush grounds, Charcoal spots a warm cosy ambience and I’m struck by its simple contemporary elegance. The beautifully-appointed open kitchen in the centre is where all the flaming and grilling actions take place. Customised for almost-smokeless charcoal grilling (thanks to the super industrial-grade suction hoods), diners can watch the gregarious Chef Robert … [Read more...]
Premium Dim Sum Dinner @ Chynna, Hilton Kuala Lumpur
Back when I was growing up in Ipoh, some of the best dining memories I have are those of eating dim sum at night. Supper is a popular pastime in my hometown - back then, nobody has ever heard of “supper is bad for you” and even if any one had heard about it, nobody cared. So, on those happy occasions when we could afford it, I remember one of our favourite night dim sum jaunts was located near the wet market. Trays and baskets of the freshest dim sum sometimes never quite made it to the … [Read more...]
Taiko Japanese Cuisine, Mont Kiara Shoplex
It used to be Ramen Taiko Japanese Cuisine and they were mainly specializing in ramen only. A new management took over the restaurant in April this year and expanded the food repertoire to include other Japanese dishes. A new chef, Chef Steven Khoo took over and has since revamped the menu. The cosy restaurant has a warm homey feel to it, thanks to the wood-based furniture and interesting Japanese knick-knacks decorating the place. The menu at Taiko is pretty comprehensive, covering … [Read more...]
A steaming affair at Celestial Court, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur
Fans of steamboat, or “hot pot” would be delighted to know that they can now indulge in this steaming affair at Celestial Court, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur until 30 December 2014. The “All Steamed Up - Oriental Steamboat” promotion offers 5 unique broths and I really have a hard time deciding which one is the best as they are all so good. But if I have to pick a favourite broth, then it has to be the “Lui Yee Hung” Chinese wine with Cordyceps Herbal Soup. The extra-fragrant wine lifts … [Read more...]
Manmaru Udon and MORE!
The name Manmaru Udon may have led many to believe that the place is an udon house. I was one of those who actually had that notion. Until recently, that is. Besides their signature udons, Manmaru’s menu lists an extensive range of Japanese favourites. In fact, the choices are quite mind-boggling. I’m a great fan of Japanese food but the funny thing is, I’m not really into their udon and ramen. That’s the reason why I seldom go to ramen or udon houses. In a Japanese restaurant, you … [Read more...]
Chettinad Palace USJ – southern Indian cuisine at its best!
Chettinad cuisine is one of the spiciest and the most aromatic in India. Spicy in this case refers to the abundant use of spices and not tongue searing chilli-hot kind of spiciness. Chettinad region covers the Tamil Nadu state in southern India and the community living in this region are known to be mostly wealthy and successful people, attributed by their excellent business acumen. Chettinad cuisine is famous for its use of a variety of spices used in preparing mainly non-vegetarian food and … [Read more...]
Opium @ Changkat Bukit Bintang
Opium is incredibly photogenic. From its colourful exterior to its opulent interior right down to the food and drinks, everything dances in glee for my camera. I’m talking about Opium, the latest dining and fun place in Changkat Bukit Bintang opened by Werner Kuhn and his team. Yeah, the same Werner Kuhn who set up El Cerdo, Dining in the Dark, The Steakhouse, The Whisky Bar and Black Forest. With such a catchy name, Opium is attracting the happy party people like ants to honey. Even from … [Read more...]
