Four Points by Sheraton Penang is located at an excellent spot. It’s just 15 minutes away from Georgetown and it’s along Tanjung Bungah with the sea just a few steps away. See, that’s really getting the best of both worlds: sea views and yet close enough to the city centre.
The 220-room hotel offers uncomplicated comfort and simplistic charm from the lobby to the grand ballroom. The moment we turned in to the hotel’s main entrance, we were immediately greeted and assisted by the hotel staff. Our bags were quickly taken and tagged while registering at the main lobby took just a few minutes.
Cold towels and drinks were courteously offered while we waited for our room cards. We really didn’t mind the few minutes’ waiting time as we were busy enjoying the sea breeze blowing in through the open lobby.
The best spot in the hotel!
We loved our suite the moment we stepped into it. It has a dining table and a pantry, a separate sitting area and of course the plush king-sized bed in another room. The restful beige and grey tones were accentuated with splashes of colours in the colourful headboard and throw-pillows on the sofa.
Our spacious and comfortable suite
The plush mattress with the soft down pillows were great in boosting our sleep in the spacious suite. What we really appreciated was the complimentary wi-fi available in the room and throughout the hotel – we were connected effortlessly.
Our suite faced the Straits of Melaka and also the pool – such gorgeous views! When we looked down to the pool area, we noticed a shack set up on the beach with benches, just right in front of the swimming pool.
We later discovered that it was a stall selling durians to the hotel guests. Since it was durian season, there was a good variety of premium durians offered, sourced from the best orchards in Balik Pulau.

The pool with a sea view
The hotel has two ballrooms and pre-function area with panoramic views of the ocean. Pearl, the largest ballroom boasts over 500 sq meters with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Straits of Malacca.
The Eatery
We had our breakfasts at The Eatery – the all-day dining restaurant. Its beachfront location, right opposite the main lobby, makes it a popular spot in the hotel. We loved the vibrant colours in the decor, giving The Eatery such fun and lively vibes.
The breakfast spread at The Eatery is quite extensive, offering local and international options. For the more health-conscious eaters, there are the raisin bran and all bran cereal, fruits and muesli. Local hot items like the popular nasi lemak is available, so are dim sum items, pastries, french bread, cakes and waffles.
We checked out some items from The Eatery’s a la carte menu as well. Their signature Sloppy Joe Burger is a must-order. Well, it really was a sloppy affair trying to handle eating the giant burger. A thick moist beef (chicken is also available) patty dipped in black pepper sauce, served with double cheese, beef bacon, pepper marmalade, fried egg (with a glorious runny sunny centre!) was sandwiched between 2 halves of a huge burger bun. Oh, did I tell you there’re also fries served on the side? Yes, you definitely gotta have someone share this monster with you.
Nasi Goreng Kampung is another whopper that’s a crowd favourite. Besides the nicely spicy fried rice, it’s got everything going on the plate: fried chicken, big pan-fried prawns, satay, keropok ikan, sunny-side-up fried egg, acar and fresh salad. It is a complete meal on a plate!
Our favourite was the Grilled Cod with Pasta – a delicious lightly grilled cod fillet served with pasta and bok choy, drizzled with a piquant teriyaki sauce.
The Eatery also serves a variety of freshly brewed coffees like Long Black, Americano, Cappucino, Latte, Mocha, Macchiato and selections of black tea, green tea, flavoured black and herbal infusion.
The Best Brew
Across the main lobby, The Best Brew Pub welcomes guests who wish to chill out in a casual and comfy venue. We love the upbeat and fun pub with its sleek and stylish bar, plush leather bar stools and relaxing sofas. There’s a whole wide range of beers served, ranging from Tiger to Kronenbourg 1664, Budweiser, Stella Artois and the best (for me, at least) is their signature beer – Timmermans fruit beer with choices of Strawberry or Raspberry flavours.
Beer lovers should go for the “Say CHEERS! Everyday of Your Stay” package where they get to enjoy free flow of draught beers daily at The Best Brew from 5pm to 7pm and buffet breakfast at The Eatery.
