When I was in Beijing, I found out that their much-touted Beijing Duck was prepared and roasted in many different styles, and I mean really very different styles! In fact, every restaurant has its own style and there are hundreds of such restaurants in Beijing! Back here in Kuala Lumpur, I’m sure the restaurants that offer Beijing Roasted Duck guard their recipes very closely. Fans of this roasted fowl will be happy to know that from 13 May till 15 June 2014, talented chefs, led by Chef … [Read more...]
Muugu Garden Bistro, Bar & Grill – such affordable steaks!
In the middle of Bukit Bintang, amidst road diggings, construction, messy roads and haphazard road signages, there’s this green plot with manicured lawns and pretty shrubs surrounding a grey glass-fronted bungalow with a bright yellow “M” logo etched on the front wall. The “M” is for Muugu, a recently-opened bistro, bar and grill with a huge garden which is perfect for outdoor events. This used to be Max At iHaus some years back. When asked what “Muugu” meant, I was told by Leonard … [Read more...]
Restoran Lucky, Ipoh – premium food at premium prices!
As a native of Ipoh, I know very well that good food can be found all over the town. Not only is Ipoh famous for its “nga choy kai” (blanched bean sprouts with poached chicken), hor fun (rice noodles), chee cheong fun (steamed rice noodles) and salt-baked chicken, good seafood is also widely available and enjoyed, if you know where to get the best. In Ipoh, you don’t need to travel to the seaside to have a great seafood meal. Right in the center of town, there’s a small restaurant that has … [Read more...]
Celestial Court Sheraton Hong Kong – Cantonese cuisine at its best!
Celestial Court in Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers ranks as one of the best Chinese restaurant in Hong Kong. Their award-winning dim sum is incredibly popular among discerning diners and if you take a look at their menu, you’ll understand why. Deluxe ingredients such as jumbo scallops, sea urchin, lobster and Fukuoka pork are used to create mouth-watering dim sum which taste as good as they look, perhaps even better. With well-known Chef Chan Sui Kei helming the kitchen, it … [Read more...]
Garrett Popcorn Shops® – Opening at Mid Valley Mall this April!
I can’t remember when exactly the Garrett Popcorn Shops made their appearances here in Kuala Lumpur but it must be about 2 years ago. I remember my first taste of it though. It’s not like any of the usual popcorn we get here. Garrett’s popcorn definitely is a class above, maybe several classes. The thing that impressed me most about Garrett’s is that every kernel is well and evenly coated with their tantalizing caramel! I’m very particular about popcorn – even when eating the regular … [Read more...]

Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers
Whenever we go to Hong Kong, one of our favourite areas to be is Tsim Sha Tsui. It is, after all, the “happening” place to be where dining and shopping are concerned. Besides these, it’s also a key commercial area and several museums (The HK Space Museum, the HK Museum of Art and the Science Museum) are scattered around the vicinity too. Nathan Road is the main thoroughfare that runs through this area and huge malls, boutiques, restaurants and commercial buildings flank both sides of the … [Read more...]
Sunway Pyramid’s “World of Cravings” featuring Brussels Beer Cafe
With 8 outlets in the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor, Brussels Beer Cafe is familiar to many. This is where many beer lovers head to for chilling out with their beer fix, particularly Belgian beers. Don’t be surprised if Hoegaarden beer is offered enthusiastically to you as Brussels Beer Café is the first outlet to serve this Belgian beer fresh off the tap, besides the other 2 Belgians: Leffe and Stella Artois beers. My favourite is the pinkish Hoegaarden Rosee with a delightful fruity … [Read more...]
Xin Cuisine – divine dimsum for private dining
We all know that for an authentic dimsum experience, it should be all about selecting your favourites from piled-high baskets on trolleys and carts pushed around in the restaurant. At least that’s how dimsum was enjoyed back in my hometown. One of my favourite earliest childhood memories is going for “yum cha” in the wee hours of the morning, just after dawn and chasing after the dimsum carts for my favourite siew mais. King Siew Mai There are still some restaurants here that serve … [Read more...]
Ah Boy Kwayteow T’ng, Penang
Have you heard about this stall? Apparently most of the locals in Penang want to keep this secret. In a recent trip up north to Penang, we were told to search for this place along Argyll Road. So the Sunday before we left the island, we dutifully drove along Argyll Road looking out for a push cart that reputedly serves one of the best Kwayteow T’ng on the island. As we took the turn-off from Penang Road and drove down Argyll Road (which is a one-way street), we couldn’t spot any cart. … [Read more...]
