I can’t remember when exactly the Garrett Popcorn Shops made their appearances here in Kuala Lumpur but it must be about 2 years ago. I remember my first taste of it though. It’s not like any of the usual popcorn we get here.
Garrett’s popcorn definitely is a class above, maybe several classes. The thing that impressed me most about Garrett’s is that every kernel is well and evenly coated with their tantalizing caramel! I’m very particular about popcorn – even when eating the regular ones, I only go for the kernels that are caramel-coated and that means I discard maybe half of those that are uncoated.
With Garrett’s, not a single kernel is discarded and that alone, is worth the price paid. No wonder it’s known as “gourmet” popcorn and the good news is that, besides the current 2 shops here in the Klang Valley (KLCC and 1-Utama), they will be opening their newest Garrett Popcorn Shop® at the Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur this month.

When I’m feeling generous and indulgent, I go for their Nut CaramelCrisp® options – almonds and cashewnuts are my usual choices.
In addition to The Chicago Mix™, the Garrett Popcorn Shop® in Mid Valley Megamall will also make, serve and sell other signature flavors such as Plain, CaramelCrisp®, CheeseCorn™ and Buttery as well as a variety of Nut CaramelCrisp® options. Seasonal flavors will be popping up from time to time too.

The Garrett Popcorn Shops® story
In 1935, each member of the Garrett family was challenged to create a caramel popcorn recipe. One creation stood out from the rest and became known as CaramelCrisp® – distinguished by its unique flavor and delicate, crème brûlée crunch from other ‘caramel corn’ variants available at the time.
When the first original Garrett Popcorn Shop opened in 1949 in the heart of Chicago, a long queue of customers, all eagerly waiting to purchase a tin of handcrafted Garrett Popcorn marked the beginning of A Chicago Tradition that continues until today.
Very little has changed from 1949; every batch of Garrett Popcorn® is still handmade with care throughout the day using old-fashioned copper kettles and wooden paddles. Their signature blend of kernels is mixed into their secret family recipe, passed down through 3 generations.
Garrett uses a custom “Golden Butterfly Blend” of butterfly and mushroom popcorn kernels. Mushroom kernels pop up into a rounded shape and butterfly kernels pop into a butterfly shape, creating a blend that ensures the perfect combination of texture and flavor in every bite.
Today, Garrett Popcorn Shops® continues to generate long queues of new customers and loyal fans alike – the only difference is, these form outside Garrett Popcorn Shops® throughout the world.
