In our hot and humid weather, having a BBQ is always a sweaty affair – at least that rings true for me. Unless of course if the grilling is done for you and you get to enjoy the barbequed food in the cool comfort of air-conditioning. Well, for this whole month of September, you can do exactly that and in the very comfortable setting of Vasco’s in Hilton Kuala Lumpur. Not just any barbeque – you get to experience a range of American southwestern-style smokehouse BBQ!
Succulent slabs of BBQ Beef
For this special promotion, Vasco’s is featuring BBQ meats and sides from Texas, Kansas City, Memphis, Alabama and Louisiana. Helming the show is their Executive Chef – Michael Donlevy who ensures the different cuts of meat are grilled and smoked the right way and paired with the right sauce. From the BBQ station, you’ll be spoiled for choice, from succulent beef brisket, juicy tender beef ribs, falling-off-the-bone lamb shoulder, lamb ribs, spicy whole chicken and chicken wings.
What sets an American smokehouse BBQ apart from the usual grilling of meat is that special wood is used to impart its distinctive smokiness to the meats. Here, mesquite – a hard wood, is used for its strong unique flavor and the smoking process enhances the tastes and textures of the meats.
If grilled and smoked well, barbequed meats don’t really need much sauce as I personally prefer to savour the natural flavors of the meat. However, an American BBQ is not complete without an array of sauces and there’s a good selection served. Although they are all generically known as “BBQ sauce”, each of the American states featured has its own specific recipe. So, depending on your taste preference, do try out the various versions, ranging from sweet mustard, sweet & spicy or sweet “heat” laced with pepper and Cajun.
Besides beef, lamb and chicken, there are also gut sausages, rustic chicken sausages, Memphis-style pulled beef burgers, grilled corn & vegetables, corn fritters, sweet potato mash, soups and puddings on the side – all ready for a smokin’ good BBQ meal!
The US Smokehouse BBQ is part of the daily Buffet Dinner in Vasco’s, until 30 September 2018.
