The Hilton Petaling Jaya goes back a long way with me. My acquaintance with this landmark hotel in Petaling Jaya started back in the 1990’s, long before I started blogging. I’ve organised countless events in this hotel for my company back then… I knew almost every inch of the place! Since then, they have built a new wing and have done a few renovations and the latest one was pretty massive. Massive, because it took almost 2 years, at a cost of approximately RM50 million. And that does not include renovation of the food & beverage outlets, which will be the next phase.
Following the Hilton Petaling Jaya’s extensive renovation, I didn’t hesitate to accept their invitation to review as I was pretty excited to see what was in store. A total of 554 guestrooms, executive lounge, ballroom and meeting space went through a refreshing transformation. According to Peter Webster, the newly-appointed General Manager, the baths in the rooms were actually demolished and rebuilt, thus standardising the designs and layouts.

The new look is a classy blend of elegant yet simplistic elements, combining subdued traditional Asian designs with splashes of vibrant hues. I love the series of wall posters in the corridors depicting local flora and fauna in stylish almost-monochromatic tones. Designed by Bluwater Design Studio, the refreshed Hilton Petaling Jaya delivers world class experience the Hilton brand is renowned for.
Our room on the Executive Floor is tastefully designed with a soothing palette of earth and neutral shades. The nature-inspired motifs on grain stone, wallpaper, carpet reflects a welcoming warmth and this theme is apparent throughout the whole hotel… from the guestrooms to the executive lounge, meeting rooms and ballroom.
Like all other rooms, our room is complete with a luxurious bed, down comforter, 42-inch LCD television, adjustable work desk with ergonomic chair, Caroma features and cozy lighting. The newly built bathroom features Grohe hand showers, marble countertops, rain shower and premium toiletries. In our Executive Suite, from the bathroom, one can have a direct view of the bed area through a glass window (and vice versa)… the level of privacy controlled by adjustable blinds.
Don’t you love the vertically-aligned room numbers?
Guests staying on the Executive Floor have access to the Executive Lounge on the 21st Floor. The lounge has been extended and now spots a spacious elegance where tables are set at discreet distance from each other. Sofas and comfortable easy chairs are also available for guests to just chill out and relax. Besides the Private Check-in/Out service, guests get to enjoy complimentary breakfast, all-day refreshments and evening cocktails at the Lounge. Full secretarial support is available upon request and there’s also complimentary high-speed wireless internet at the Executive Lounge.

Fitness-minded guests will be delighted with the 24-hour Fitness Centre, the LifeSpa and outdoor landscaped swimming pool in the hotel.

We didn’t take any photos of the Kristal Ballroom as there was an event setting-up then. The pillar-less ballroom certainly looks very different from the last time I saw it (which was ages ago actually). The dark hued timber wall panelling gives it an elegant ambience, enhanced by the rich-textured silk panels and glistening crystal pendants from the ultra-modern light fixtures. The refreshed stylish ballroom is excellent for just about any event – from meetings, seminars, corporate events to wedding receptions.
Signature Cocktail at Uncle Chilli’s
Uncle Chilli’s has this endearing concept of “The Place Where U Belong” and its contemporary retro-inspired décor certainly evokes that feeling. The dining and bar areas merge seamlessly, alongside the Cigar Lounge which is outfitted with a walk-in humidor, a lounge and a conservatory. On the night we were there, the resident band members had the crowd eating out of their hands as they belted out favourite numbers on the elevated stage.
Other F&B outlets at the Hilton Petaling Jaya are Caffe Cino, Paya Serai, Toh Yuen and Genji. All these need no introduction as they are signature restaurants in the hotel.

Look out for the new coat of paint on the hotel’s exterior which will be creating a brand new exciting identity for the Hilton Petaling Jaya soon. With Peter Webster personally looking into it, we’re pretty sure it’ll be a nifty job – the guy’s very much hands-on with such tasks, really… as with all things under his purview since he took over the reins as General Manager.
