There’s no denying the passion that goes into the food at NOSH. While I have not had the pleasure of meeting Judith yet, when chatting with Ann Lee, her unabashed enthusiasm and obvious love for food sparkle through in her every gesture. When she makes a statement like “Really, what do we Malaysians love most? Eating great food, of course!” – you would immediately gather that here is one dedicated gourmand in every sense of the word. For not only does she love great food, she makes great food too!
Over at NOSH, the menu is constantly reviewed and given a fresh breath of air particularly when there are special festivities in the calendar. So, with Ramadhan in our midst and Hari Raya and National Day not too far away, there’s good reason for Ann and Judith to expand their repertoire of good food for July and August. After all, food is the best way to celebrate being Malaysians.
We checked out 4 new savoury dishes recently. The Calamari Cucumber Salad (RM29) is an appealing arrangement of fresh ribbons of crunchy cucumber intermingled with zesty grapefruit pieces tossed in their version of a “nam jim” dressing. And of course, topping this are the crispy calamari rings. The tangy slightly spicy flavours of the dressing works well with the cucumber and grapefruit and the calamari rings give a good bite to the salad.
Ayam Masak Merah (RM32) is a popular dish with many Malaysians and NOSH’s take on this bends towards a healthier curve, serving it with flavoursome cous cous and a tangy salad (RM32). Braising the chicken in a spicy aromatic tomato gravy, enhanced with fresh herbs renders it to a meltingly tender chunk. We mopped up the thick gravy gleefully with the cous cous.
Kurau (threadfin) is a favourite fish with us. One of the simplest ways we serve this tasty fish at home is to just fry it and then douse it with soya sauce or sambal belacan. The Grilled Kurau (RM42) by NOSH is an instant hit with us. The succulent fillet is well seasoned in a special marinade before being grilled and it’s balanced nicely with spinach & yellow lentil dhal flanked by some grilled seasonal vegetables.
Marrying local and western culinary elements is Ann’s forte and this effort shone brilliantly in NOSH’s Penne Lamb Rendang (RM38). It’s their fusion take on the ever-popular lamb rending and serving that with penne makes this a very substantial dish. You may not have tummy room for anything else if you polish off this serving.
To round off a meal, never ever leave NOSH without tasting their desserts, for that is surely the highlight of any outing here. Anyone going to NOSH and not having a dessert is like going to Beijing and not visiting the Tiananmen Square. Ann and Judith have put together 4 special desserts for July and August and if you are a sweets lover, it’s best you head over there soon.
Of the four, my firm favourite is the Bubur Cacar Panna Cotta (RM17) – creamy wobbly panna cotta made with coconut cream served with cubes of powdery yam, sweet potato, sago & palm sugar syrup. Just divine.
Fans of Crème Brulee should check out their Mango Crème Brulee (RM18) which is redolent with fresh mangoes sealed beneath a crusty layer of caramelized sugar and propped with a chocolate cigar.
Fruits of the Forest Chocolate Pavlova (RM18)
A crisp chocolate meringue lusciously topped with a rich indulgent chocolate mousse, fresh mixed berries with drops of zingy raspberry coulis – have this if you are a pavlova fan.
Carrot Walnut Cake (RM18)
A moist carrot walnut cake topped with scrumptious french cream cheese ice cream & a carrot tuile with raisin coulis. The cream cheese ice-cream got more attention in this dessert. Good thing it’s a bit tangy and balances out the sweetness of the cake.
While you are there, do try one of their latest best sellers – the Pandan Delicio – layers of soft pandan genoise sandwiched with Gula Melaka buttercream. It’s also topped with more of that decadent buttercream and decorated with some candied coconut frills.
Check out other desserts on their regular menu too – here’s my earlier write-up.
The items listed in this post are available only for July & August so head over to NOSH before end August to indulge!

Love the creativity here! The penne lamb rendang and the bubur cha cha pannacotta would be my ideal meal. 😀
