The thing with us Malaysians is that many of us love our desserts and we often want to stuff as many varieties as possible. It is not uncommon then to see diners often ordering several types and sharing them among themselves.
Ann Lee of Nosh understands this penchant perfectly. That is why she has come up with the latest TEN desserts in Nosh and best of all, offering diners combinations of all the desserts at insanely decent prices. Tell me if these offerings aren’t decently attractive (considering its prime location in Bangsar):
Choice of any 2 desserts: RM19
Choice of any 3 desserts: RM29
Choice of any 4 desserts: RM39
Choice of any 5 desserts: RM49
Mind you, the size and portions of the desserts are pretty generous and Ann doesn’t believe in using sub-standard ingredients either. These special desserts are available for the entire months of May and June 2013:
Earl Grey Creme Brulee
Creme Brulee made with Earl Grey tea releasing the distinctive flavours and aromas from the bergamot orange of the tea, enclosed with the signature caramelized sugar crust, topped with a cornel of whipped creme Chantilly and a nonchalantly tossed dark chocolate cigar.
Creme Au Chocolat
Decadent baked chocolate cream paired with a tangy fruit of the forest mousse and served with a delicate crunchy nutty tuile. I couldn’t stop scooping that evilly addictive chocolate.
Coconut Panna Cotta
A local tropical twist to the panna cotta – with addition of coconut cream, served with pandan-infused palm sugar and topped with a crunchy tuile.
Black Forest Pavlova (contains alcohol)
Singularly one of the prettiest desserts in the house! A crisp chocolate meringue lusciously topped with a rich indulgent chocolate mousse which anchors a bouquet of dark cherries soaked in kirsch and fresh strawberries. Drops of zingy raspberry coulis carefully dot the plate for a stunning presentation. My favourite is the kirsch-dripping cherries actually!
Sweet Potato Azuki Gateaux
I love the quirky presentation of this dessert. It looks like a woolly brush sitting on 3 long beans! Actually it’s a Japanese-inspired creation… light airy green tea flavoured chiffon sponge cake generously filled with twirls of sweet potato mousse and topped with rich azuki red beans. One of my favourites – love the lightness of this dessert!
Chocolat Orange (contains alcohol)
Chocolate lovers must not skip this. Rich chocolate cake filled with Grand Marnier-flavoured chocolate mousse, glazed with dark chocolate and squirts of citrusy orange reduction to alleviate the richness a bit.
Strawberry Cheesecake
One of Nosh’s signatures, made with French cream cheese, the decadent cheesecake is topped with fresh strawberries and pistachios. Raspberry coulis swirls add color and a piquant touch to this pretty dessert.
Apple Cinnamon Cake
Apple butter cake, with delicate nuances of cinnamon, is served with Nosh’s own gourmet vanilla bean ice-cream topped with crunchy sliced almonds on a bed of warm creme anglaise and for added flavours, a drizzle of butterscotch sauce.
Walnut Tiramisu (contains alcohol)
A deconstructed version: rich chocolate sponge soaked in espresso and fine port wine, complemented by luscious creamy mascarpone, caramelized walnuts and generous dusting of dark cocoa powder. One of my favourites.
Lemon Peach Tart
Another deconstructed dessert: the base is a buttery crumble with cubes of peaches, tangy lemon curd and topped with crunchy swirls of ginger filo pastry with a light dusting of ground cinnamon. This is DL’s favourite.
So, there you have it… a list of 10 gorgeous desserts that are available only in May and June… just perfect for your Mother’s Day and Father’s Day celebrations!
And while you are at Nosh, why not try some of these special dishes that are only available in May? In addition to the regular items on their menu, Ann and her team always come up with some specials each month.
Smoked Salmon Salad (RM29)
Crisp greens tossed with tangy vinaigrette and slices of smoked salmon. I like how this salad is made more hearty with the addition of thick slices of boiled potatoes – a pretty substantial dish on its own!
Pumpkin & Smoked Chicken Risotto (RM38)
DL loves this risotto, delicately sweetened by the pumpkin and the smoked chicken pieces are very aromatic, almost bacon-like.
Lamb Gnocchi (RM38) – Gourmet sweet potato gnocchi in a lamb ragout cooked with red wine. I love the smooth slightly-spongy gnocchi soaked in the delicious thick ragout with generous portion of fork-tender lamb cubes.
