The Ultimate Tickle – that’s the name for Ticklish Ribs & ‘Wiches’ signature BBQ Ribs. If you haven’t heard already, this porky joint in Sea Park Petaling Jaya has been making some waves in the neighbourhood for the past couple of months. Amidst all the comedic and entertaining hog-related posters decorating the restaurant, the aroma of grilled pork permeating the air greets you when you step in. The eatery is kept very casual – order and pick up your food at the counter yourself.
The Ultimate Tickle comes in Half (3 ribs) and Full (6 ribs) racks, priced at RM20 and RM38 respectively. The ribs are marinated in their special recipe sauce and grilled till the edges are charred. You can order them in Spicy or Original flavours. They do have that fall-off-the-bone tenderness as the ribs have been boiled till soft prior to the grilling. The sauce has a strong resemblance to the typical American-style BBQ marinade: heavy on sweet, savoury and tangy nuances. They are quite liberal with the sodium content too. In fact, generally, I find the food is on the salty side here.
The sandwiches come in a variety of fillings – all porky, of course (RM15-16). Witty names have been coined for them, like “You Braise Me Up” (braised pork belly slices), “ChewBakkwa” (bak kwa pieces), “Pull Your Leg” (pulled pork) and “Hoi Lam Ting” (hainanese-style pork chop) are among the types served.
3 types of bread are offered: white, charcoal and wholemeal and you can have add-ons like fried egg, cheese and caramelised onions. Or, you can go for their “Psycho Sandwich” (RM80) which has ALL the meats and all the sauces piled into one huge baguette! Yes, it’s really “gila” – you probably need a few people to finish that!
At the moment, there are 2 other carbs items available: Rice Vice and Oodles of Noodles (both at RM12). The former is a bowl of rice topped with pork slices katsudon-style and the latter is spaghetti with a cheesy minced pork topping.
The menu is kept simple and as promised by its name, the focus is on their ribs and sandwiches. I think they need to tweak their sauce recipe a bit to reduce the salt somewhat. That, or you’ll need to down a lot of beer to counter the effect!
