There aren’t that many eateries that serve porky pizzas and pastas and Skippys is one of those in this arena. They first started in Phileo Damansara and have recently opened another outlet in Damansara Uptown which is good news for pork lovers around there.
Located in the same row as The Ship, Skippys is a casual restaurant with simple furnishings – a place where you can just chill out with some cold beer and your favourite porky dishes.
Simple set-up… let’s just get on with the porky affair!
The specials for the day are all etched out on the board!
I’d say their pizzas are their main attraction – after all, they call themselves “the real pork pizza company!” and they do have a good variety on the menu. We had one of their best-sellers: Marc’s Special Pizza (RM26/RM32) which was laden with ham, mushrooms, eggs, baby spinach and made super aromatic with garlic and onions. The pizza dough was at the right thickness, complemented by gooey sticky mozzarella cheese. Yes, we’d go back again for stuff like this!
Two starters which you should try are their Goulash (RM12) and Skippys Salad (RM19.50) with sun-dried tomatoes, black olives, anchovies and bacon. The thick goulash was hearty, filled with a good measure of vegetables and meat. Fresh leafy greens with crisp fried bacon in the salad…can never fault this combo!
Skippys’ Pork Knuckle with fried potatoes and salad (RM70) was presented in a very different style. The meat was chopped up into manageable pieces and the skin fried to a crisp and curl. It looked promising but when we bit into the inviting-looking curled skin, alas – it was hard and chewy. The sauce and meat were decent though.
Skippys’ Glutton Pork Burger (RM24.50) with bacon, egg, mushrooms and lots of fries was a whopper of a burger. The thick meaty patty was well flavoured and this was a wholesome meal by itself. Be prepared to share if you are a small eater or want to have other dishes as well.
We also tried the Pork Ribs in 7 sauces – 10 pieces (RM25), German Sausages with salad and fries (RM23) and Meatloaf with Fried Potatoes & Salad (RM25). The sauce for the pork ribs was a tad salty and overwhelming, the sausages were decent and the meatloaf was average. We suspect the pork ribs had been boiled first before being grilled and slathered with the sweetish sauce. The meatloaf dish could have been better if the egg had been a bit under-fried in a clean pan.
The Spaghetti Bolognaise (RM16.90) was comforting – pasta and minced meat in a tomatoey sauce always make the world better.
I’d go back for their pizzas, for sure and maybe the pastas too.
