I still recall vividly the time when I attended the grand opening of the Sheraton Hotel, Cotai Central in Macao in 2012 as part of the Malaysian media team. Fast-forward 4 years and the hotel has now been designated “Sheraton Grand”, a truly deserving award.
This new premier tier recognizes exceptional Sheraton hotels and resorts for their enticing destinations, distinguished designs and excellence in service and guest experiences. These qualities have to be constantly maintained, if not exceeded, to retain the status.
After 4 years, I was very excited to see how different the hotel would be. In all outward appearances, there’s no difference actually. The hotel is still as huge, still as busy, maybe even more now but what’s new is the grand experience for us which started right from the airport pick-up and the Executive Deluxe Suite we were in. The short 10-minute ride from the airport was very comfortable in the MPV and before we knew it, we had reached the impressive main entrance of the Sheraton Grand Macao!
Upon walking through the huge glass doors, we were warmly welcomed by the MarCom Team and quickly whisked up to our suite. We were bowled over by the spaciousness of the Executive Deluxe Suite, all 1,345 sq ft of it!
Tastefully furnished – the living and dining area
One of the 3 tv sets in the suite
There’s a marble-topped dining table for 4, and next to that, a comfortable living area complete with sofa and TV set. What’s even more impressive was the “media room” aka the “AV room” with a huge TV and plush wide sofabed. It felt more like an apartment than a suite!
The master bedroom came with a big and luxurious bathroom – bath tub, double sinks, separate shower, the works.
The luxurious bedroom
There’s another guest bathroom outside just after the entrance too.
If you are travelling with young children, the Family Suite would be right up your alley.
These two bedroom suites feature a master bedroom for parents, along with a separate, specially designed children’s room, fitted out with comfortable beds, bright and colorful pint-sized furniture and an entertainment center with a XBOX game console and DVD player. Now how awesome is that?? If I were kid, I’d never leave that room!
The kids-friendly suite – they think of everything!
I love the thoughtful great touches like playful soft toys and cushions, a craft table, children’s bathrobes and slippers – just perfect for the little ones!
Parents also do not have to lug around travel equipment for the kids as Sheraton Grand Macao takes care of it. The bathroom is equipped with a toddler toilet seat and potty, baby bath accessories, children’s bathrobes, toothbrushes and toothpaste, cots, strollers and bed guards are available upon request.
With 4,000 rooms in 2 high-rise blocks (Earth & Sky), the Sheraton Grand Macao is the biggest hotel in Macao and the largest Sheraton in the world. Despite it being such a massive hotel, it’s very well managed. The staff were attentive and responded well to some of our queries and requests. Amenities and facilities are all top-notch and well-maintained. After all, the hotel didn’t get the “grand” title for nothing and all these work together to make it an outstanding property.
The Presidential Suite
Swimming pools, gym (Sheraton Fitness) and spas (Shine Spa) are all available
Gorgeous swimming pools – hang out here all day!
The Shine Spa even has a hair salon that’s kids-friendly… just look at that!
Due to its size, be prepared to walk the super-spacious corridors and atriums as there’s the casino, shopping mall and restaurants located inside the hotel. Due to this, there’s always a big buzz in the hotel, lots of energy and movements within the vast walls. There’s plenty to keep you occupied inside the hotel without even moving one step out of it!
The reception @ Sheraton Club
Breakfast buffet at the Sheraton Club
There are 3 main restaurants in the hotel: Xin, Bene and Feast – more of those in a separate post.
Next, let me tell you about the amazing breakfast we had with some of Dreamworks’ beloved characters…
SHREKFAST @ Urumqi Ballroom, Level 4
The Sheraton Grand Macao takes kids’ engagement to the next level with its collaboration with Dreamworks. How about brunching with a bunch of Dreamworks’ animated movie characters in a humongous buffet set-up?
The Urumqi Ballroom looks like an amazing and crazy wonderland decked with colourful posters of the characters from floor to ceiling. This blast of colours and energy forms a vibrant backdrop to the many food counters lined up on both sides of the vast ballroom.
As we helped ourselves to the food, Kung Fu Panda Po himself appeared together with Shrek & Fiona, Puss in Boots, the Madagascar gang and my favourite Toothless from How To Tame Your Dragon. The kids went crazy as everyone scrambled to take photos.
The breakfast spread is really impressive!
Crab Porridge is a must in Macao!
There’s no rush actually, as the characters would go to every table to pose with diners. So, just keep calm, eat your breakfast and wait for Shrek to come tap your shoulder and have your photos taken.
Thank you, Sheraton Grand Macao for hosting us and giving me the opportunity to revisit. We had a grand time, for sure 🙂
