Paradise Inn in Sunway Pyramid oozes an ambience of old-world Chinese traditions in its warm wooden themed deco. Priding itself as a diner’s paradise, offering value-for-money innovative dishes, Paradise Inn’s affordable gourmet menu has been given a facelift recently. The new menu highlights new items as well as retaining ever-popular favourites.
Double-boiled Water Goby with Spare Ribs and Fresh Apples Soup
Double-boiled Chicken with Spare Ribs, Mushrooms and Chinese Cabbage Soup
Their healthy and tasty double-boiled soups have always been firm favourites with diners. Served in black earthenware pots, the soups come piping hot to the table. The moment the lid is lifted, delightful aromas waft up to our nostrils through the rising steam from the pot. Both the Double-boiled soups: Water Goby with Spare Ribs and Fresh Apples Soup and the Chicken with Spare Ribs, Mushrooms and Chinese Cabbage were absolutely delicious and heart (& tummy) warming. As a Cantonese, I love my soups and these 2 pots (RM39.90 per pot, good for 2-4 pax) are really great value for money as they contain ingredients that reduce internal dryness, relieve thirst, improve metabolism, nourish the kidneys and generally enhance health.
Stewed Pork Belly with Lotus Bun (RM4.80/piece), Coffee Pork Ribs (RM19.90) and Steamed Minced Pork with Water Chestnut and Salted Eggyolk (RM18) all hit the right notes with us. The stewed pork belly is a perennial favourite for who can resist a piece of wobbly tender layered pork belly sandwiched between a soft pillowy Chinese bun?
Coffee Pork Ribs
Stewed Eggplant with Minced Pork & Salted Fish in Claypot
Steamed Minced Pork with Water Chestnut and Salted Eggyolk
A dish that calls for plenty of white rice is the Stewed Eggplant with Minced Pork & Salted Fish in Claypot (RM16). Flavours are strong and vibrant as any dish with salted fish tends to be.
The highlight for me is the Crisp-Fried Shrimp Paste Chicken (RM18). Using shrimp paste imported from Hongkong (not belacan), the umami flavours have penetrated well into the chicken wings and the light crispy batter seals in the sweetness beautifully. I found myself reaching repeatedly for those darn addictive wings.
Chicken with Fragrant Herbs in Claypot (RM18) is similar to the Taiwanese 3-Cup Chicken and Paradise Inn’s version here aint shabby.
Crisp Fried Crystal Prawns with Salted Eggyolk
Crisp Fried Crystal Prawns in Wasabi Mayo Sauce
If you are a prawn lover, you will be very happy with the Crisp Fried Crystal Prawns in Wasabi Mayo Sauce and in Salted Eggyolk – both at RM29.90. The wasabi was quite indiscernible but the lack of this sting-factor does not make it any less tasty. In fact, the mildness will encourage one to be greedier! I prefer the more sinful salted eggyolk-covered prawns, simply because they are so scrumptious.
Hotplate Tofu with Preserved Vegetables & Minced Pork (RM18)
Braised Vermicelli with Pork Trotters
Another sinful dish, full of delectable carbs is the Braised Vermicelli with Pork Trotters (RM19.90). Although extremely inviting, this is not a dish to over-indulge but sometimes certain risks need to be taken, no? If you answer “yes” to that, then go ahead and wolf down a plate of these irresistible noodles!
Poached Chinese Spinach with Egg Trio & Minced Pork in Superior Soup (RM16) has many fans as we slurp up every drop of the yummy soup.
Lemongrass Jelly with Lemonade
Paradise Inn’s list of desserts focuses mainly on “thong sui” – great news for thong sui fans. However, I zoom in to my favourite: Chilled Lemongrass Jelly with Lemonade (RM6) – a perfect tangy citrusy end to my sumptuous dinner.
Individual Set Meals from RM19.90++ onwards are now available in Paradise Inn – perfect for a quick lunch. A good selection of popular items is included in the set – saves you the trouble of going through the extensive menu!
