These days you are likely to see Steve Allen dressed casually in checked shirt and jeans in the Delicious cafes. Why? The latest feather to this chef’s talented cap is that he’s now the CEO of Delicious, after having served as Group Creative Chef for the E&O Group for a year. Of course, he still heads the new Delicious Kitchen but he now allocates time in other operational aspects of Delicious, from customer service to training to just about everything else.
So, there I was… chatting with Steve Allen while checking out the new menu from Delicious. “Oh we have a whole new team of F&B professionals who have a real passion for food and service”, enthused Steve. Besides Steve, there are 3 executive chefs – Chef A’inuddin Md Ariffin, Chef Mohamed Fazil Abu Bakar and Chef Sandy Alan Rowe. Then there’s also Chef Hafizi (more fondly known as Chef Tasha) who is the Training & Development Chef.
Long Beans, Snow Peas & Sundried Tomato Salad
Steve proudly declares that the new Delicious menu emphasizes fresh homemade food and the tagline is “Pasta, Salads, Cakes and more!” So, yes, get ready to feast on a refreshed menu that highlight dishes prepared with great passion and dedication by his team.
Crispy Softshell Crab Salad
I like the crunchy Long Beans, Snow Peas & Sundried Tomato Salad (RM23.90) for its unique twist. It is served with 2 pieces of toasted garlic bread and a creamy dressing dotted with crushed pistachios. For something a bit spicy, go for the Crispy Softshell Crab Salad (RM27.90) with its Thai-slanted somtam-style presentation.
Lebanese Bread with Caramelised Onion Hummus
Chicken Avocado Wrap
Light eaters will welcome easy bites like Lebanese Bread with Caramelised Onion Hummus (RM10.90) and Chicken Avocado Wrap (RM24.90). The latter is actually very filling and a full meal by itself … generous serving of poached chicken breast, basil pesto mayo and butterhead lettuce wrapped in healthy Lebanese bread, with thick-cut fries and chopped salad by the side.
Delicious Club Sandwich
Similarly, the Delicious Club Sandwich (RM26.90) will feed you well. A triple decker of grilled chicken, pesto, turkey bacon, egg and tomatoes on toasted brioche, with the same thick-cut fries and chopped salad!
You can see Chef Tasha thoroughly enjoys what he does, like cooking us pasta!
Dry Tossed Sambal Linguine
Seafood Marinara Spaghettini
The pastas section of the menu is pretty extensive with popular selections that would please many. The Dry Tossed Sambal Linguine (RM29.90) has a local slant with fishballs, calamari, tiger prawns and of course the sambal. Chef Tasha demonstrated how this dish can be cooked quickly. I didn’t quite like the addition of oyster sauce in the recipe though – I thought it’s kinda diabolical, pairing it with the sambal. I preferred the Seafood Marinara Spaghettini (RM25.90) with the luscious prawns, squids and anchovies in a lovely garlicky tomato sauce.
Chicken Kapitan
Beef Short Ribs Herbal Soup
New localized items under “Delimains” on the menu are Chicken Kapitan (RM24.90) and Beef Short Ribs Herbal Soup (RM27.90). Tasting much like bak kut teh, the dark herbal soup with fork-tender short ribs comes with soba noodles, bok choi and shitake mushrooms.
From top left corner, clockwise: The “Delicious Iced Tea” (RM8.90); Spiced Apple Tea (RM8.90); Chocolate Brownie Deli’spresso (RM12.50) and Passionfruit Yoghurt Crush (RM11.90)
Besides the food, Delicious has also introduced a brand new beverage menu. New items are the Deli’spresso Ice blended coffee range, “Yoghurt Crush” which is fat-free ice blended yoghurt smoothies, a refreshing selection of iced teas, Chai lattes and coffees made from UTZ and USDA certified Columbian organic coffee beans – the world-renowned “Juan Valdez”.
Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake (RM12.90)
Of course a menu is never complete without sweet endings. There are 20 of their best cakes listed, including 2 winning cakes from their recent “Cake Bake Off” competition held in June. Prices of the cakes are from RM12.90 to RM14.90 per slice.
Banana Caramel Cake (RM12.90)
Oh, did I mention that brunch is also served, up till 5pm daily? Popular breakfast items are listed under this segment of the menu. There’s also Traditional English Afternoon Tea at RM59.90 for two persons served between 3pm-6pm daily where you get a triple tier stand holding a variety of sweets and savouries… and your choice of any 2 cups of hot coffee or tea.
