To me, no holiday is complete without some body pampering. A spa session, a body massage or even just some basic foot reflexology makes a whole lot of difference and these are things I try to include in my travel itinerary.
When we were at the Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort recently, I managed to catch a massage session at the renowned Mandara Spa. Spa enthusiasts will recognise the prestige and quality that are synonymous with the name “Mandara Spa”. Traditional holistic spa treatments using Asian recipes and embracing ancient rituals are some of the signature trades of Mandara Spa. Their quality service is something they proudly uphold in all their outlets and my experiences in their spas have always been excellent.
The Mandara Spa is located on a quieter stretch in the vast grounds of the Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort. Standing rather majestically amidst graceful centuries-old trees, the spa building spots a blend of modern and traditional Thai-Balinese architecture. Once inside the building, the cool calming interior settles like a soothing balm on my face – a very welcoming respite from the hot humid air outside.
I was led through cool dim corridors hung with exotic drapes and tastefully decorated with art pieces. The spa comprises of a double Royal spa suite , two double deluxe spa suites, a single deluxe room, a Hammam room, a room for facial treatment, relaxing lounge and a full service beauty salon.
After a foot wash, my therapist led me into the cool confines of a single spa room. I chose a lemongrass-based aromatherapy oil and settled down to a 90-minute massage. I closed my eyes, inhaled the aromatic oils and drifted off to semi-consciousness… to a realm where my tensions and stresses evaporated under the skilful firm strokes of the therapist.
I was gently brought back to reality when my therapist gave a final pat on my shoulders and told me the session was done. Reluctantly, I got dressed and made my way out. It was late evening and the sun was still lingering in the horizon when I made my way back to my villa.
