M1Star is a no-frills eatery in Damansara Uptown run by a husband-and-wife team. Its menu features predominantly Western-Japanese food with special focus on their house-made sauces. Most of the mains are also served in sets with rice and drink packaged in – such a boon for busy people around that area.
On days when you just want to have a simple tasty meal without too many decisions made, M1Star’s set meal selections would come in handy. But before we got to the mains, we couldn’t resist trying some of their Japanese-style starters like Agedashi Tofu (RM6.90) and Takoyaki Balls (RM9.90). The tofu was smooth and soft and it’s a shame that the sauce was a tad too salty. We loved the takoyaki balls though, especially those fluttering bonito shavings.
If you can’t decide between fish or chicken, have both. Their Salmon & Chicken Teriyaki Set (RM17.90) comes with rice and drink and it’s a substantial portion. We liked how boneless chicken thigh meat is used in their chicken dishes.
We could see that Chicken Kiev is one of their best-sellers as it’s highly recommended. The set is RM16.90 and served with coleslaw, potato wedges and rice. When cut open, aromatic melted cheese and finely chopped coriander oozed out. It’s a value-for-money set, for sure as the coleslaw and potato wedges were all freshly prepared.
The tangy creamy lemon sauce perfected by M1Star went well with their chicken chop and this was another signature dish. Priced at RM15.90, the set came with the same condiments as their Chicken Kiev.
Seafood Donburi (RM20.90) was very decent with fresh bouncy medium-sized prawns, crabsticks and squids layered with sweet onions and mushroom slices. For added crunch, there were also several florets of broccoli to go with the saucy eggy rice. It’s a very comforting bowl of simple nourishment, especially when you are in a hurry.
