Ever since our trip to Sri Lanka and having tasted its cuisine, we’ve been craving for some authentic Lankan food here. We love the food at Lankan Café which showcases a good selection of Sri Lankan and Southern Indian cuisine. Fast friendly service adds on to the pleasant dining experience. While climbing up the stairs to the 1st floor where the restaurant is, we already could catch sniffs of the delicious spicy food.
We started off with both the Chicken and Mutton Lamprais. The servings came in hot packs, wrapped in banana leaves and once these were opened, the lamprais with everything on it was just too tempting! To go with this, we just had to have a few bowls of their sambols – Pol Sambol, Katta and Sinni Sambols. They were so good we could totally eat these on their own. But of course, they were better with plain rice and all the dishes we had that day!
We couldn’t resist the Jaffna Crab Curry and when this was served, we just had to use fingers and the entire dish was wiped clean. Spices and tastes were on point. In fact, all the dishes we had were pretty much on point! Prawn Pooriyal, Brinjal Moju and Kottu were all good with perfect balance of spices, heat and flavours.
A must-have to round off a meal here is their amazing Brown Sugar Paal Appam. Super-thin crispy sides and soft sweet wobbly centre sprinkled with brown sugar – what is there not to like?
It’s time to head on to Lankan Café to indulge in some Sri Lankan spices – be it for breakfast, brunch, lunch, teatime or dinner!
