It came as no surprise to me when I heard that Nigel and Allan have decided to take their business one notch higher by opening their very own Just Heavenly Cafe. Those two are the creative and entrepreneurial forces behind the highly-successful “Just Heavenly” cakes. Who doesn’t know the pleasures of tasting “A Slice of Heaven” from their cakes? They are after all, in the business of “Designing Dreams, Serving Pleasures”!
Their flagship Just Heavenly Café is located in Bangsar Shopping Center (Level 2), a prime location by any standard. Although the café has been in operation for a few months already, we got to check it out recently. With furnishings and décor decked out in their signature blue and white, the café exudes a casual chic and is just the perfect place to grab some quick bites while chilling out with loved ones.
The menu is simple and offers numerous selections for each category – Salads, Sandwiches, Burgers, Quiches/Pies/Tarts, Pasta and even All Day Breakfast!
Feeling hungry and dying for some carbs, I had the Crab Aglio Olio (RM26) which has generous helpings of shredded crab meat on angel hair pasta tossed in garlic and extra virgin olive oil. It’s a lovely dish to start off our meal as it’s perfectly-flavoured and not too heavy on the stomach.
One of the must-try items is the Coconut Chicken Salad (RM20) which has chunks of tender chicken poached in coconut milk served on ulam and ginger flower salad enhanced with their very own-made chilli jam. I like how local herbs are used in this refreshing salad – the richness of the coconut-infused chicken nicely balanced by the tartness and grassiness of the ulam and ginger flower.
If you ask Allan what is the one dish that must be ordered here, he’ll happily tell you “Carbonara”! Specifically, their Penne Carbonara (RM22). This has always been his guilty pleasure, it seems. I’m not a fan of creamy pasta (I tend to go for the aglio olio) but looking at the way Allan enjoyed his dish, I can conclude that it must be really satisfying. If you are a carbonara fan, go ahead and indulge.
DL decided to go for the Lamb Burghini (RM27) – a Greek inspired lamb burger balanced with refreshing yoghurt-mint sauce and sprigs of fresh local crisp watercress salad by the side. The first time I tried Nigel’s watercress salad was many months ago in a culinary event and I remember everyone there loved this salad to bits. I’m so glad that they have incorporated this into their menu. The ground lamb patty in the burger was thick and generous, redolent with herbs and spices yet you still get that familiar delicious gamey nuance of lamb.
No meal is ever complete in Just Heavenly without some heavenly slices of cakes! Take your pick… one thing I do know is it’s not easy to pick your choices because everything looks so tempting, sigh! I was disappointed that their infamous Durian Chocolate Cake was not available that day – I was told that will only make an appearance in the late afternoon!

If you are there on weekends and public holidays, have a go at their Ridiculously Large Breakfast (RM32): 2 eggs 2 sausages, ricotta hotcakes, garlic mushroom, breakfast salsa, toast with citrus ginger marmalade, Greek yoghurt and honey, comes with juice and hot tea/coffee.

We love the cool refreshing drinks, too!
