In our recent trip to Bangkok, we chose to stay at the Sukhumvit area and Aloft Bangkok was a natural choice. The hotel is located in Soi 11, quite possibly one of the hippest spots in town. All around the hotel are bars, cafes, restaurants, shopping outlets and the Nana BTS Skytrain and MRT station are all in the vicinity.
Just like the other Alofts, Aloft Bangkok shines with the same urban hip with modern savvy design as its theme. The hotel, with all its outlets, breathe “energy” and “fun” in its bright cheerful hues in almost every corner.
We love Crave, the all-day dining restaurant – it’s both classy and fun at the same time. Classy is the moment you step inside and is greeted by its amazing wine display shelves, showcasing their range of wines. I was told there are more than 250 varieties there and all labels are sold at wholesale prices.
The seats and tables are all decked out in bright cheerful colours – it immediately lightens the mood when one dines here. We love our “regular” table by the tall side window which gives us a good vibrant view of what’s happening in the streets down below. And there’s always something interesting happening there. When we had our daily breakfast there, the street hawkers below started assembling their carts and stalls in preparation for the day’s business.
Crave serves buffet dinners in the evenings and there are various themes on different days of the week. On the night we were dining there, it was BBQ Night. We got excited just looking at the gorgeous cuts of beef tenderloins, lamb cutlets and pork chops. While the chefs grilled our selected meats, we made our way to the appetisers counters groaning under the weight of fresh oysters, broiled seafood, salads, soups and cheeses.
There were also trays of Thai dishes beckoning and we helped ourselves to Thai curries and other spicy tangy delights.
The chefs did a great job grilling our meats. Every piece was nicely charred on the outside while the meat inside remained pink, tender and juicy.
Desserts were a combination of western items and fresh fruits. The selections of food may not be very extensive here but what it makes up with is quality and tasty items. Service was impeccable too.
After dinner, we moved over to the W XYZ Bar to chill out. Another typical Aloft outlet with the signature multi-coloured theme, the bar exuded its own fun and hip charm.
A resident DJ was spinning and the bar was busy dispensing their signature cocktails, premium liquor and wines, of course. We had a couple of their cool signature “Heaven on Earth” complete with all the visual effects. It’s one of their most ordered and awarded Molecular Cocktails as one of the 9 best cocktails in Bangkok! So, be sure to order this whenever you happen to be at the Aloft Bangkok.
