Recently, we went to one of our favourite restaurants in Kg Subang – Choong Foong. Read about my earlier post about this place HERE.
LL wanted to go there for his favourite Claypot Lamb Ribs – unfortunately that night they ran out of this item – haiyaahhh!
Anyway, we ordered our 2nd favourite dish there – a “must-have” … the Sharksfin Omelette…
… which you wrap in these crispy fresh Lettuce leaves before eating…I wanted a steamed fish so we opted for this Steamed Freshwater Fish (wan yue) smothered with ginger paste… the paste was ground finely and delightfully flavoured. The fish was steamed to perfection, not overdone at all.
Since we didn’t get to eat the Lamb Ribs, the captain recommended their alternative meat dish which was this Fried Pork Knuckles. The knuckles had been braised and then fried to a crisp and served with a tangy spicy sauce. I didn’t find this spectacular – in fact, I thought the meat has been overfried, rendering it dried and chewy… which couldn’t be helped much by the sauce.
For the mandatory fibre dose, we ordered the Watercress in Garlic. Done in a no-fuss way, the greens served their purpose.Perhaps it was because I was feeling a bit under-the-weather that night… but somehow the only dishes I could really swallow with some enjoyment were the Sharksfin Omelette and the Steamed Fish.
Next time I will make sure to book the Claypot Lamb Ribs before setting out to this place.
Total bill for the above plus rice & drinks for 3 persons came to about RM130.

wah … RM130? but of course, the sharks’ fins (if they really were real fins) and the fish probably justified the price paid.
