The first time I tried Hotel Armada’s Chinese New Year dishes was last year and I was pretty impressed with its repertoire. As many of us know, Hotel Armada may not be the biggest or newest hotel around but its Chinese New Year offerings is value-for-money and the dishes are prepared with a lot of heart and dedication.
So this year I chose to visit Hotel Armada again for a preview of their festive promotions. Once again, Executive Chef Chew Teik Chye and team have come up with some good old traditional Chinese dishes fit for the Chinese New Year celebration. The Utara Coffeehouse is all decked out in Chinese New Year finery … cherry blossoms, gold ingots, red lanterns and all kinds of festive red and gold ornaments are out in full force, all ready to usher in the Year of the Rat! Kudos to the team for their efforts and spirit to decorate the premise so beautifully!
To start off, there’s Yee Sang and Treasure Pot (aka “Poon Choy”) for the celebration. King Salmon Yee Sang is available at RM88+ per portion and the vegetarian Fruit Veggie Yee Sang goes for RM78+.
We love the Poon Choy for its deep and robust flavours from braising abalones, prawns, scallops, clams, sea cucumber, roast duck and other flavourful ingredients. This Treasure Pot is available for dine-in and take-away at RM488+ and diners get to keep the pretty claypot too!

As a prelude to the Chinese New Year, the festive dishes are available in Utara from 17-23 January 2020. The Pre-Chinese New Year Reunion Buffet Dinner features a good variety of symbolic dishes for Chinese New Year as well as local, western and Japanese selections. Steamed Seabass with Black Fungus, Stir-fried Vegetables with Lotus Root, Chinese Herbal Chicken, Fried Kam Heong Mussels and Sang Har Noodles are some of the popular festive dishes to look out for.
More festive Chinese dishes will be available in the Reunion Buffet Dinner on 24 January 2020 and the Chinese New Year Buffet Dinner on 25 January 2020.

I think the Chinese New Year promotions at Hotel Armada are very decent and value-for-money. The Utara Coffeehouse has recently undergone a full refurbishment for a brighter and more contemporary ambience. That, together with the nice festive decorations put up makes this a good and affordable choice for a Chinese New Year celebration.
