Bofe is a cosy neighbourhood cafe located in Section 19, Petaling Jaya. With a clientele that consists mainly of nearby residents, Bofe enjoys a decent flow of customers, even on a week night. This is thanks to their line-up of simple but commendable comfort food served in a pleasant homely ambience.
Dishes listed in the menu are mainly well-thought out, with careful consideration for healthy options and not-too-complicated execution. Starters like Paprika Chicken Soba (RM8.90), Duck Salad Wraps (RM8.90), Crispy Crab Bites (RM11.90) and Prawn & Mango Cup (RM11.90) are all simple but healthy items.
Paprika Chicken Soba – grilled chicken on bed of salad with roasted sesame dressing
Duck Salad Wraps – roasted duck and lettuce wrapped in tortilla
Crispy Crab Bites – breaded crab bites with tomato chutney
Prawns & Mango Cup – seared prawns on mango in salad cup
Among the several mains we tasted, my favourite is the Goma Smoked Duck Breast (RM19.90) which is a delicious assembly of pan-fried smoked duck breast resting on mashed potato and drizzled with roasted sesame dressing. It’s a very simple dish but the flavours all blend well together and that umami tender smoked duck breast is just stunning. It’s so good we ordered a 2nd serving!
Their Softshell Crab Pasta (RM21.90) is a huge hit. A whole deep-fried crumbed soft-shell crab is served on top of a bed of rich creamy pasta – what is there not to like?
At RM34.90, the Lamb Shank is meant for 2 pax. The Moroccan-influenced style of braising the lamb has made it really tender and it’s served with a hearty gravy and wholesome mash. For smaller eaters, it can even be shared among 3 people.
I was curious about its Peranakan Duck (RM19.90) and it turned out to be braised duck nyonya style with fried spring roll, emping crackers and sambal belacan. I felt it could have done with a bit more spices.
Like most neighbourhood cafes, Bofe does serve Set Lunches which come with coffee/tea/ice lemon tea and dessert. Their beverage menu lists choices of coffee, tea, bottled beer, sodas and healthy freshly blended fruit juices. There is also a modest selection of home-baked cakes at the counter. I had their Nutcracker (RM9.90) and Snickers Cheesecake (RM10.90) both of which were really good.
