“Sauna steamboat” is the new buzz in steamboat dining these days. There are several restaurants which are doing a roaring business with this new trend. Basically, it’s steaming raw fresh food over boiling stock. Instead of the usual steamboat where raw food is dunked into boiling soup, food is placed on a steaming tray and slowly steamed over the soup. Juices from the steamed food drip into the soup below, thus intensifying the flavour over time. Trust me, by the time you have steamed the … [Read more...]
SHELL OUT – feasting on seafood with bare fingers!
Shell Out started with their Kota Damansara outlet in mid 2013 and late last year, another outlet in Setia Alam was opened. Working on the “Louisiana Boil” concept where seafood is boiled in pots of sauces and then poured onto tables sans crockery or cutlery, Shell Out has been a tremendous hit. I guess we Malaysians love to eat with our bare hands - there’s just something so primitive and basic in attacking food with fingers. I heard their Kota Damansara outlet is still crazy busy and there’s … [Read more...]
CRAB HUT @ CYBERJAYA: Getting your hands pleasurably dirty on SEAFOOD!
My family and I love crabs. Living in Malaysia, we are lucky to get fresh seafood all year round and for more exotic stuff, they are easily imported. Being fans of Crab Factory in Petaling Jaya, we did not hesitate to head to Cyberjaya when we heard that their Crab Hut has opened there. Located in Shaftsbury Square, Crab Hut has been like a godsend to all the seafood lovers in Cyberjaya ever since they opened their doors late last year. Crab Hut offers both live seafood and for the … [Read more...]

Occupying a spacious corner lot, its unmistakable colourful purple-and-green interior can be glimpsed from the road in front. You can’t miss the vibrant colours of the restaurant! Fish Noodles @ WONG CHAU JUN RESTAURANT, PENANG
We needed a quick breakfast before heading back to KL and Wong Chau Jun popped into my mind. I’ve heard about their fish noodles and we were in the mood for something hot and soupy. Wong Chau Jun Restaurant, located along Rangoon Road is always busy but we were lucky that day as there were still a couple of tables available when we reached the place. It’s a typical local kopitiam with photos of their dishes all plastered on the walls. We ordered a bowl of their signature Spicy Sour … [Read more...]

BROLLY @ Menara Felda, Kuala Lumpur
Going into Brolly is like letting oneself loose in a merry-go-round Wonderland of Food. And being the mad glutton that I am, that’s really a very dangerous place to be. Dangerous because one can easily slip into a food coma here simply because there IS just so much food variety here! Blame it on the foodie owners – they just want to tempt the hell out of you with their endless selections, housed under various “kitchen concepts” in this very mod and quirky dining space. Obviously … [Read more...]

Unique Seafood @ Kota Damansara
Live seafood swimming in tanks may seem squeamish to some but at Unique Seafood, that’s the only way to serve it. Freshness is their top priority. “From the tank to the table” seems to be their motto and seafood lovers can’t be happier. Unique Seafood is one of the earliest restaurants to venture into this live seafood concept. I recall the first time I dined in their Section 13 Petaling Jaya outlet many years ago, it was a roaring novelty then. Looking at the many tanks lining up … [Read more...]
