The last time I dined at Dancing Fish was when they first opened, some 5 years ago. As one of the few restaurants around town serving good Indonesian fares, they have been doing well. And in fact, the restaurant just bagged the “Rising Star” Platinum Business Award 2016 bestowed by the SME Association of Malaysia. That’s a testament of the restaurant’s unique local expertise on the verge of making their global presence in the near future. Certainly, Dancing Fish has been … [Read more...]

NASI LEMAK SERAI WANGI at SS2 Petaling Jaya
I chanced upon this stall in a kopitiam in SS2 recently. What caught my attention was the delicious aroma of the lemongrass-scented rice when I passed by the stall. At that point, one of the guys was scooping up the rice for an order. I stopped and checked out the stall and was delighted to see they had sambal kerang (cockles sambal) and I wasted no time in ordering a plate of their nasi lemak with that and beef rendang as well. Service was pretty fast and before long, a plate … [Read more...]

I was told that once he joined The Datai last year, he quickly set … [Read more...]
Hari Raya Classics by Marina Mustafa
I was immediately drawn to the cover of this cookbook, by the big wide smile of the author herself. Marina Mustafa is the author of “Hari Raya Classics”, one of the latest books from MPH Publishing under its MPH Masterclass Kitchens series. Marina is no stranger to cookbook writing - this is, after all, her 6th cookbook and her 2nd one in English. As the name suggests, it’s a book on classic Hari Raya dishes. It’s not a very thick book. There are 25 recipes featured here, under 5 categories: … [Read more...]

When I visited Kelantan Delights at Chitta Mall recently – my first time there, I located the restaurant from the aromatic trail from their Gerai Ikan Bakar. Stalls have been set up at the entrance and in front of the restaurant, … [Read more...]
Let’s Berbuka Puasa @ BIJAN, Kuala Lumpur
There are 3 reasons why I love BIJAN (the fine Malay restaurant and not the sesame seed). Reason No.1 is for its incredibly lovely ambience; reason No.2 is for its out-of-this-world Chocolate Durian Cake and reason No.3 is for everything served in between the gorgeous walls and the cake! A restaurant specializing in fine Malay cuisine, Bijan in Jalan Ceylon holds court as purveyor of serving traditional fares with modern day ingredients for a unique dining experience. Locals … [Read more...]
