I have often wondered about the inspiration behind this name “Extra Super Tanker” for a Chinese restaurant? I mean, the place doesn’t really look like a tanker and possibly the description “extra super” refers to the food served here? Well, if that’s the case, then I agree wholeheartedly! Ahhh… but coming back to the “tanker” part, I was told the amusing anecdote behind this. Apparently it was meant to be “tankard” as the previous owner was a beer lover but somehow the spelling went a bit off in … [Read more...]

A Taste of Taiwan at Zuan Yuan, One World Hotel
At the heart of Taiwanese food is simplicity and use of basic rustic ingredients. Simple cooking methods also prevail, where food is usually cooked using just one method (eg steaming, frying, boiling etc) and then served. This is quite unlike other Chinese cuisines, like the Shanghainese or Cantonese dishes whereby usually a combination and permutation of various cooking methods are used to prepare a single dish. Perhaps it is this simplicity of ingredients and methods which has endeared … [Read more...]

A Taste of Great Britain @ Delicious Cafes
When Chef Steve Allen came on board the E&O Group as its Group Creative Chef earlier this year, I knew it would be a matter of time before he’d be showcasing some true-blue British dishes. After all, Chef Allen is “True Brit” through and through. Well, what do you know – just last week I had a chance to check out Delicious Café’s “A Taste of Great Britain” promotion which is happening in all the Malaysian Delicious from 1 October to 30 November 2012. There are a total of 8 dishes from … [Read more...]
Dim Sum Galore @ Maju Palace!
There aren’t that many pork-free non-hotel restaurants around town that serve good decent Dim Sum. Maju Palace Restaurant is one of those rare gems that can whip up a great dim sum feast and that’s exactly what a group of foodie friends and I discovered recently. A member of the Oriental Group of Restaurants, Maju Palace has just passed its 10th year anniversary. Located in Maju Junction Mall, parking is ample and the restaurant is spacious, with capacity to hold 5 private dining rooms … [Read more...]

Sanook Bistro & Sports Bar’s New Menu
Tucked away in the heart of Kelana Jaya is this sprawling laidback place called Sanook Bistro & Sportz Bar overlooking the lake. When you are in Sanook, you totally leave behind the hustle bustle and horrific traffic fumes of the LDP and you can almost feel the stress eroding from your soul as you relax and gaze at the splendid lake view and the twinkling shimmers dancing on the water. I was told “sanook” means “fun” in Thai and I guess that is exactly what the owners intended this place to … [Read more...]
Sheraton Macao Grand Opening
Recently, I was privileged enough to be invited to join a media group from Malaysia to attend in the gala opening of the Sheraton Macao. It’s my first trip to Macau, so of course I was excited like hell! Even though I was all bleary-eyed trooping down the long walkway of LCCT to board our 6.30am direct flight to Macau, the idea of being included in our 15-strong only Malaysian media group was already so thrilling. We were all going to be part of the gala celebration for the opening of … [Read more...]
Arthur’s Day at SOULed OUT, SriHarts
From what I heard and saw, Arthur’s Day 2012 was a smashing success with thousands of fans gathering at 3 unique music events which took place simultaneously across the Klang Valley last week. Fans gathered at the Beer Factory, Sunway Giza, Laundry Bar, The Curve and SOULedOUT Sri Hartamas (or “SriHarts” as coined by the creative folks in SOULed OUT!) to raise a pint to the founder of the world’s favourite black brew, Arthur Guinness. The celebration, themed ‘A Celebration Made of More’, gave … [Read more...]
