It all started in 1937, when Ernest Henderson and Robert Moore opened the first Sheraton Hotel in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA. That makes Sheraton exactly 75 years old this year. Together with 90 Sheraton Hotels across Asia Pacific, the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur has been carrying out a host of activities to celebrate the brand’s 75 years of hospitality legacy.

Fresh Buffalo’s Burratina Cheese with Tangy Mediterranean Salad
I had a chance to sample the special 3-course dinner at Villa Danieli recently. The menu offers 2 options of the starter and dessert, while for the mains, there are 4 options for your selection.
For Starters, you can choose either the Fresh Buffalo’s Burratina Cheese with Tangy Mediterranean Salad OR the Roast Beef Salad with Truffle Tuna Sauce, Potato and French Beans. Not much of a cheese fan, I preferred the Roast Beef Salad which was excellent. The thin slices of roast beef were very tender and tasty and that truffle tuna sauce was really fragrant – beef, truffle, tuna flavours all went very well with the greens!
Five Wild Mushrooms Risotto
The Mains can be either Five Wild Mushrooms Risotto OR Fresh Egg Tagliatelle with Rustic Lamb Ragout OR Seared, Sliced and Gratin Australian Beef Rump with Rosemary Beef Jus & Roasted Lemon Potatoes OR Oven-baked Sea Bass Carpaccio with Fresh Thyme, Asparagus & Kalmata Olives Dust. I think the choices are very decent as there’s something for everyone.
Fresh Egg Tagliatelle with Rustic Lamb Ragout
My favourites are the Beef Rump and Sea Bass Carpaccio. I love the chewy succulent, yet tender, texture of the beef rump and the beef just that’s served with it – it’s very wholesome and bovinely rustic in taste. The thick slices of potatoes with a tinge of citrus, were just perfect, smothered in that delicious thick beef jus.
Sliced and Gratin Australian Beef Rump with Rosemary Beef Jus & Roasted Lemon Potatoes
I heard Chef Graziosi is a master with carpaccios and the Sea Bass Carpaccio was faultless. Delicately fragranced by fresh thyme, the smooth white fish was sweet and flaky. The crunchy asparagus stalks were a good contrast in terms of colour and texture. All in all, I think this dish will please many.
Crème Brule with Rosemary
The risotto and tagliatelle dishes were generous in portions and even though I’m not really a fan of risotto, I could taste the unmistakable earthy aromas of the wild mushrooms flavoring the rice. The grains were not too mushy and yielded a good bite with every spoonful. The own-made tagliatelle were nicely al dente – do eat this dish while it’s still hot as once it cools down, the strong flavor of the lamb ragout tends to overwhelm it.
Tiramisu
Of the 2 desserts, I definitely prefer the Tiramisu. Not that the Crème Brule was lacking in any way – I’m just not a fan of sweet milky custards, although in this version, the rosemary gives it a nice lift. The tiramisu was light and fluffy … it would have been heavenly if there’s more coffee liquer in it.
Parmesan Cheese Icecream
We tried another dessert … the signature dessert of Chef Graziosi, which is not in the Set Menu above but it’s available in the a la carte menu. It’s the Parmesan Cheese Icecream! While some may find such a combination to be unholy, I thought the parmesan in this icecream works rather well, really. Slightly saltish and with the unmistakable flavor of parmesan, I found this novelty icecream interesting, in a good way.
