When you walk into the Pretz & Beanz Cafe, the insane aromas of baking pretzels mingled with brewing coffee can be quite unbearable. Unbearably mouth-watering, that is. The aromas instantly stir up hunger pangs – no kidding. On a rainy evening, we stepped into Pretz & Beanz Cafe and once we were seated, we could hardly wait to get our hands on the freshly baked pretzels that they are well-known for. I was chuffed to see that their pretzels were actually soft and fluffy, quite … [Read more...]
THE POINT KL Restaurant & Bar, Damansara Heights
It was my first time to The Point KL Restaurant & Bar as they were launching their latest menu. It also happened to be their 2nd anniversary in March. Well known for their signature style of local, Asian, European and Mediterranean items, the new fusion-style dishes take on certain unique twists from … [Read more...]
Free-range Chicken Promotion @ TAI THONG RESTAURANTS
Free-range chicken (known as “choi yuen kai” in Cantonese) has always been my preference where chicken is concerned. I use this in all my home-cooking as the texture is firmer and tastier compared to the usual white farmed chicken. Of course its price is much higher too. The lovely interior of Imperial Garden There are various breeds of free-range chicken and I’m told certain areas in the country also yield better quality cooks. Semenyih is one of those and it is from here that the Tai … [Read more...]
Garrett Popcorn: Enjoy the NEW Limited Time Flavor – MATCHA CaramelCrisp
Those of you who know me well will know that I blog in my free time, away from work. I am not a full-time blogger and although my blog is now more than 8 years old, whatever that’s been written in it was done as a “hobby” and passion. Look, after 8 years, it’s hard to sustain or continue blogging if there’s no love or passion in it, right? I blog as a form of release: be it from stress or just the need to express myself and of course, to share with you an experience, whether it’s a meal … [Read more...]
SUSHI TSEN, Seri Petaling: wallet-friendly decent Japanese fares
The main streets of Seri Petaling have fast evolved into a thriving food oasis. Every time we explore the area, I’m always amazed by the sheer number of food outlets in that area. New eateries are always popping up and diners heading that way are completely spoiled with lots of choices. Along Jalan Radin Bagus, with eateries flanking both sides of the road, Sushi Tsen stands out as it serves very affordable Japanese fares within its cool interior. We loved the spaciousness of the … [Read more...]
SUNDAY BRUNCH at SAILS RESTAURANT, Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa
During our stay at the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort recently, we had a chance to indulge on their Sunday Brunch. “Brunch at Hilton” took on a whole new meaning with the sumptuous spread lined up at Sails Restaurant, one of their most popular eateries on the property. Sundays are especially laidback in Phuket – it’s something to do with the sun, sea and sky there, I think. The Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort was one of the very first establishments in Phuket that started the Sunday Brunch. … [Read more...]

So much has been said and raved about Dewakan. Located inside KDU University College in Shah Alam, Dewakan restaurant is an entrepreneurial effort of the university. Helmed by Chef Darren Teoh, the restaurant runs on the combined efforts of the university culinary students, both in the kitchen and the dining hall. Dewakan is a shortened form of the Malay words “Dewa Makan” which essentially means “God of Food”. Simple and elegant interior of the restaurant Dewakan serves modern … [Read more...]
SHELL OUT – feasting on seafood with bare fingers!
Shell Out started with their Kota Damansara outlet in mid 2013 and late last year, another outlet in Setia Alam was opened. Working on the “Louisiana Boil” concept where seafood is boiled in pots of sauces and then poured onto tables sans crockery or cutlery, Shell Out has been a tremendous hit. I guess we Malaysians love to eat with our bare hands - there’s just something so primitive and basic in attacking food with fingers. I heard their Kota Damansara outlet is still crazy busy and there’s … [Read more...]
Chee Cheong Fun at Kedai Kopi Kuan Lee @ TTDI Kuala Lumpur
On days when the traffic is kind and the weather is fair and we are early getting to my workplace, there’s always a good chance that DL will be in the mood to detour to Taman Tun Dr Ismail for breakfast. Specifically, we’d head to Kedai Kopi Kuan Lee for my favourite KL-style chee cheong fun. Coming from Ipoh where our CCF is always served plain and simple with a sweet red sauce, chilli sauce, a dash of shallot oil, a splash of soya sauce, a sprinkle of sesame seeds and pickled green … [Read more...]
RENDEZ-VOUS @ Bangsar for decent affordable French food
French food is never cheap, well at least not here in Malaysia. But of course it’s not cheap because cheap things are seldom good. And also there’s nothing cheap nowadays, given the sorry state of our Ringgit and the pathetic state of the state. Now, putting our misery aside, it’s a good thing that there still establishments like Rendez-Vous in Bangsar (no less) that serves affordable French food. Yes, decently affordable. This French restaurant occupies a corner shoplot in Bangsar Park - … [Read more...]
