Baan Kun Ya means “Grandma’s House” in Thai and it was this desire to preserve age-old recipes of traditional Thai dishes that inspired the opening of this restaurant. It’s by the same people behind Thai Odyssey - yes, those well-known massage therapy outlets. Love the rustic charm of the restaurant! Having made a strong presence in Malaysia all these years with their local massage/spa expertise, it makes sense to now expand into the F&B industry with their particular offering of “old … [Read more...]

From the same stable of The Burger Factory, TBF Signature Kitchen Gastrobar is a fairly new watering hole occupying a prime location in Oasis Square, Ara Damansara. NASI LEMAK SERAI WANGI at SS2 Petaling Jaya
I chanced upon this stall in a kopitiam in SS2 recently. What caught my attention was the delicious aroma of the lemongrass-scented rice when I passed by the stall. At that point, one of the guys was scooping up the rice for an order. I stopped and checked out the stall and was delighted to see they had sambal kerang (cockles sambal) and I wasted no time in ordering a plate of their nasi lemak with that and beef rendang as well. Service was pretty fast and before long, a plate … [Read more...]
KIRAKU JAPANESE RESTAURANT, CYBERJAYA
Some may think that Cyberjaya is pretty far to get to for a Japanese meal. Well, actually it’s a very pleasant drive along the highway and I love the big spaces and wide roads of Cyberjaya. Parking is also pretty easy. But of course I’m talking about weekends and weekends are just perfect to chill and take that easy drive somewhere for some food-hunting. And that’s how we came to Kiraku Japanese Restaurant. Housed on level 3 of the commercial Shaftsbury Square, you can easily spot the … [Read more...]
When in PHUKET, you just gotta LOVE ANDAMAN!
In our recent trip to Phuket, we did a day-trip to Koh Tachai with Love Andaman, a well-known operator for island trips. Tachai is one of the most beautiful islands in South Thailand and known as “Maldives of Thailand”. See the photos below and you’ll understand why. We got up at the crack of dawn as the pick-up was scheduled at 6.15am from our hotel, the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa. Bleary-eyed and still half-asleep, we climbed into the van which then proceeded to pick other … [Read more...]
PRETZ & BEANZ CAFE @ Mont Kiara – there’s more than just Pretzels!
When you walk into the Pretz & Beanz Cafe, the insane aromas of baking pretzels mingled with brewing coffee can be quite unbearable. Unbearably mouth-watering, that is. The aromas instantly stir up hunger pangs – no kidding. On a rainy evening, we stepped into Pretz & Beanz Cafe and once we were seated, we could hardly wait to get our hands on the freshly baked pretzels that they are well-known for. I was chuffed to see that their pretzels were actually soft and fluffy, quite … [Read more...]

Well known for their signature style of local, Asian, European and Mediterranean items, the new fusion-style dishes take on certain unique twists from … [Read more...]
Free-range Chicken Promotion @ TAI THONG RESTAURANTS
Free-range chicken (known as “choi yuen kai” in Cantonese) has always been my preference where chicken is concerned. I use this in all my home-cooking as the texture is firmer and tastier compared to the usual white farmed chicken. Of course its price is much higher too. The lovely interior of Imperial Garden There are various breeds of free-range chicken and I’m told certain areas in the country also yield better quality cooks. Semenyih is one of those and it is from here that the Tai … [Read more...]
