The very first time I stepped into Watami was at their 1-Utama outlet and that was for a hurried lunch. I had a bowl of ramen and I was good to go. I believe I do have some photos of that meal somewhere but I haven't had a chance to blog about it. I told myself I'd blog about it when I have revisited the place to try out more of their dishes. That was like almost 4 months ago and this was during the time when the Old Wing of 1-Utama was undergoing some massive renovations which resulted in many … [Read more...]
Fang Xiang Bah Ku Teh in Setia Alam
Fang Xiang Bah Ku Teh in Setia Alam must be the only bak kut teh business I know that's run by a young lady. And run it, she does, from A-Z! I couldn't believe it myself when I met the owner and chef of this restaurant - a sweet and demure-looking young lady by the name of Syvonne Lee. Hair tied up in a ponytail, fresh-faced and ever smiling, she looks hardly 25, let alone owning and running a bak kut teh business! See - the caricature on the shop signboard is a perfect replica of the … [Read more...]
Cono Sur Wine Dinner @ Tosca, DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur
It was a 1-night affair. For a brief night, I got to taste and experience a delightful affair - a marriage of Italian and Chilean flavours. I had the best of both worlds. I'm talking about the 1-night-only event at Tosca at DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur which featured a 5-course wine dinner, partnering Italian cuisine and Chilean wines from Cono Sur Vineyards & Winery from the Colchagua Valley in Chile. I was told the restaurant was fully-booked for this special wine dinner. … [Read more...]
Hai Jing Seafood, Kg Jawa
I love eating at places which are off the beaten track. It’s always exciting to check out a new place, at the most obscure of places and then discover the food there is not bad at all. I’ve been passing by this simple and basic looking restaurant for many months now, on my way to have my massages. It started out as more or less a shack and then the owners kinda did up the place to make it more “presentable” and the business has improved. They even have a parking attendant stationed in front, to … [Read more...]

Tea-infused Delights @ Zuan Yuan
Throughout this month, you can get a taste of special tea-infused dishes at Zuan Yuan, the Chinese restaurant in One World Hotel. Chef Michael Chew has concocted a variety of dishes using premium Chinese tea leaves like "Loong Jin", "Wu Loong", "Ti Kuan Yin", Jasmine and Chrysanthemum. In a special preview recently, I got to taste some of Chef Chew's creations. Before the tea-infused dishes were served, we had our appetites whetted by a Speciality Platter of fried yam puff and smoked duck … [Read more...]
New Menu at Villa Danieli, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur
Chef Alessandro Graziosi, the new chef at Villa Danieli @ Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur will be cooking up quite a storm in the coming days. A preview of some of his recipes set the pace for some exciting dishes to be included in Villa Danieli’s menu. From my earlier posts here and here, Villa Danieli remains one of my favourite Italian restaurants in the city. Well, apart from the food, the restaurant set-up is gorgeous... rusticly chic... it's never overwhelming that you feel equally … [Read more...]
Hi-Tea @ Dondang Sayang, Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur
It's the weekend and what better way to kick back, relax and hangout with some family or friends over a spread of unlimited food than to go for a Hi-Tea session. Yes, Hi-Tea or High Tea, if you please. It's interesting to find out that there is a difference between High Tea and Afternoon Tea. The latter, started in the UK, is more like a social gathering for ladies of the elite & leisure and it involves manners, lace and dainty foods and tea, of course. This afternoon soiree usually takes … [Read more...]
Launch of the All-New BMW 3-series
Let's do a non-food post today, for a little change... although I must say the subject matter is more sumptuous than any food. Since late last week, car enthusiasts have all been busy talking about the latest baby in the car scene... the all-new BMW 3-series, that's what it is. The official launch by BMW Malaysia was celebrated over 2 evenings last week at The Mines Convention Centre. I chose to go on the 1st evening, because... well, simply because I just couldn't wait to see the car. Of … [Read more...]
Indonesia Food & Cultural Festival @ Mosaic, Mandarin Oriental KL
Recently I was privileged to attend the launching of the Indonesia Food & Cultural Festival at Mosaic, Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur. The event was officially launched by Mr Mulya Wirana, Charge D'Affaires from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia. Prior to dinner, guests were treated to some traditional Gamelan music and a "Lenggang Nyai" Indonesian dance, while sipping on specially-concocted drinks and nibbling on canapes at the Lounge on the Park. During the course of dinner, we … [Read more...]
