With the easing of some restrictions to the MCO, many F&B outlets have started to re-open, some fully and some partially. Hotels are mostly being cautious, implementing the necessary hygiene and safety procedures before opening up any eatery. The Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre is one of the cautious ones. Recently their Sedap Restaurant started operations and knowing that many people are still practising the Stay At Home guideline, takeaway and delivery orders are available. … [Read more...]
The Eastern & Oriental Hotel Penang – Experience The Heritage Wing
The Eastern & Oriental Hotel (E&O) stands majestically along Farquhar Street in Penang and each time I pass by it, I’m always awestruck by its elegant beauty. My fascination with the E&O started way back in the 1970’s when I first stayed in this grand hotel. Yes, it was grand, even back then when I was nothing more than a kid. In fact, it made such a great impression on me that I can still recall how I stood at the window facing the sea, feeling the sea breeze on my … [Read more...]
CULFISHERY – order your seafood via WhatsApp!
Before the Covid-19 pandemic and MCO, when life was normal, I’ve always bought my seafood at the wet market and sometimes, at the supermarket. Now, since the MCO was enforced in March, most people, including me, have resorted to online purchases for groceries and fresh food. I’ve always been very particular about seafood - they must be absolutely fresh. Fisheries and seafood retailers have also learned a new business norm - sell or auction online! One of these enterprises is CHONG … [Read more...]

With the Movement Control Order (MCO) still in place in the country, people are encouraged to stay at home and have their meals at home too. Although recently some food establishments are allowing dine-in, majority of people are still practising caution. Food is packed & delivered in environmental-friendly cardboard boxes So, why not take a break from cooking and have the culinary team … [Read more...]

During this MCO period when people’s movements are restricted and many non-essential businesses are put on hold, it goes without saying that for most of us, life is never the same again. Some are saying that if the virus doesn’t hit our health, it sure as hell has and will hit our economy. The food business has been hit hard. Japanese Viking Buffet @ TATSU, InterContinental Kuala Lumpur
When I read that “Viking buffets are well-known in Japan and are feasts of flavours” (from the press release issued by InterContinental Hotel), I was curious. To be honest, I have never heard of “Viking buffets” and certainly didn’t know that it’s famous in Japan. So I did a bit of research and found out something interesting. From a little story published online (of which I have no way of authenticating), I read that “Viking” actually refers to a buffet meal in Japan. It seems that back … [Read more...]
SPG by Bijan, Kuala Lumpur
Back in the 1970’s-80’s, the term “SPG” was quite widely used. “Sarong Party Girl” as what the abbreviation stands for, refers to an Asian girl who loves to party with white guys. I believe this was coined in the 1940’s when the British ruled over Singapore and this character has even been popularized in books. This acronym is cheekily used by the folks at Bijan to name their sister outlet – SPG by Bijan. Main Entrance Located right next to Bijan itself, SPG is a Malay tapas and … [Read more...]
