Celebrate Ramadhan @ Cinnamon, One World Hotel
“Mother’s cooking“ – whenever that term is mentioned, very often it refers to well-loved comfort dishes … dishes that are well remembered and have a firm place in our hearts, (or shall I say “stomachs”?). This is the exactly the theme cooked up by the good chefs in the Cinnamon Coffee House of One World Hotel for their sumptuous Buka Puasa buffets this Ramadhan. Warisan Bonda – this encompasses the wide array of glorious traditional Malay specialities served during the holy month. This is … [Read more...]
Buka Puasa Seenak Warisan Ibunda at Empire Hotel Subang
The holy month of Ramadhan has just started last weekend and we are now in the first week of the fasting month. Even before the dawning of Ramadhan, many hotels have already launched their special Buka Puasa buffets. The earliest invitation I received was from Empire Hotel Subang to check out their special buffet spread at their Kitchen Art Brasserie. Diners get to feast on wholesome home-style dishes here. From the array of traditional and kampong-style dishes, there are more than 50 … [Read more...]
Fresca Mexican Kitchen & Bar @ The Gardens
Fans of Mexican food now have a new place to enjoy this cuisine. The newly-opened Fresca Mexican Kitchen & Bar at The Gardens spots a contemporary and rustic look. From its pretty floor tiles, exposed bricks on the walls, wood-panelled partitions and dark wood furniture, there's a warm feel of hip Latino ambience. I like the colourful Mexican hats and folk paintings decorating some of the walls – great conversational pieces. High stools line the bar on one side – a good place for guests … [Read more...]
The Hakka Restaurant
Since 1956. Yes, that's the year the Hakka Restaurant was established. It has been that long. Of course I wasn't even born then but I know this restaurant has been around for ages. Many many years ago when I first came out to work in Kuala Lumpur, this restaurant was already very established and holds a significant position among the grand old dames of Chinese restaurants here. Over the decades, the restaurant has grown tremendously and now it sits on an enviable prime corner in one of the … [Read more...]
Celestial Court’s New Dim Sum
I always find that the Dim Sum portions served in Celestial Court, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur are more than generous. Their “har-kow” and “siew mai” are pretty huge… bigger than what most other dim sum restaurants serve. Not only are they bigger in size, the pork-free ingredients used are always fresh. I have yet to taste any less-than-satisfactory dim sum in Celestial Court. The fact that no pork is used does not hamper the taste of the dim sum in any way. In fact, Executive Chef Ho Boon … [Read more...]

A piece of Hummingbird
It's Friday... and many will be saying "TGIF!". The weekend is just a step away... so here's a slice of home-made Hummingbird Cake for you to welcome the weekend! It's a very healthy cake... full of carrots, pineapples, raisins, bananas and walnuts and I used corn oil to bind everything together. The topping is made from cream cheese and to add a touch of sunshine, I decorated it with a piece of roasted pineapple! Happy weekend, everyone! :-) … [Read more...]
Prime @ Le Meridien… sumptuous steaks!
This post has been sitting in my "Draft" folder for a few months already. I've been so caught up with recent events that I had ignored this draft for some time now... shame on me... and it's one of my favourite steak places, too! So, here's how the story goes... "Are you game for Prime this weekend?" - that was an sms I received from DL not too long ago. What kinda question is that?! As far as I'm concerned, I'm always game for Prime, anytime! Who isn't? As far as I know, Prime @ Le Meridien … [Read more...]
