“Mother’s cooking“ – whenever that term is mentioned, very often it refers to well-loved comfort dishes … dishes that are well remembered and have a firm place in our hearts, (or shall I say “stomachs”?). This is the exactly the theme cooked up by the good chefs in the Cinnamon Coffee House of One World Hotel for their sumptuous Buka Puasa buffets this Ramadhan.
Warisan Bonda – this encompasses the wide array of glorious traditional Malay specialities served during the holy month. This is in addition to the regular melting pot of local and international dishes which are firm crowd pleasers.
Start by making your own salads by choosing your favourite greens and cheeses at the salad bar. There’s also a long line of savouries, pickles, kerabus and sambals to jazz up your plate.
All-time Ramadhan favourites such as Ayam Percik, Daging Bakar, Ayam Masam, Rendang Daging Tok, Ikan Patin Masak Lemak, Kupang Masak Berlado, Udang Gulai Pekat, Kerabu Mangga Muda, Asam Pedas Ikan Tenggiri … these are merely the tip of the buffet line.
I love the Black Pulut Lemang here!
I have always found the buffet offerings in Cinnamon to be pretty extensive and mind-boggling. And now with the celebration of Ramadhan, the choices get even more tantalizing! There are numerous live-cooking counters and stalls which cook and serve you your selections, piping hot. Place your orders at the regular stalls for pastas, chicken rice, yong taufu and Indian breads. For Ramadhan, special stalls for various local noodle specialities will tempt you – think Mee Mamak Goreng, Char Kway Teow, Mee Rebus, Asam Laksa, Curry Mee… the menu changes every day. Do not miss the stall that fries Quails and Chicken Wings on the spot – crunchy and delicious! Oh, there’s even a Roti John corner.
A Ramadhan feast is not complete without the Bubur Lambuk and Cinnamon serves one where you can add in your own condiments.
There’s also a Whole Roast New Zealand lamb on the pit, served with Nasi Briyani and sauces of your choice. On Saturdays, a whole roast deer is available.
Another popular stall is the one frying bananas, chempedak and sukun. I love the sukun!
Go crazy at the desserts section. Local and western favourites jostle for space on the glass shelves.
A huge variety of Malay kuih, pandan kurma layer cake, nutmeg coconut pie, white lady cake , kurma cheese cake, cream caramel, fruit tartlets, cinnamon soufflé, kurma linzer tart, passion pannacotta, tapai pulut, tapai ubi, pisang rebus, jala emas, badak berendam, mini popia, kuih sepit, kuih bijan, kuih cakat ayam, tart nenas, pulut panggang – goodness, the list is endless! If that’s not enough, go for the chocolate fountain, the icecream bar and the ice kacang stall!
