Tao doesn’t really brand itself as a Japanese restaurant. It prides itself in serving a variety of popular Asian cuisine, with Japanese influences in a major portion of its menu. Its All-You-Can-Eat buffet is extremely popular and because it is one of the very few restaurants that offer this “all you can eat concept” for dinner and dinner every day!
Diners can take their pick from dishes laid out on the buffet counter as well as order unlimited portions from their a la carte menu. Salads, cold appetisers and desserts are the main items laid out on the counters. The fresh oysters corner is the busiest as the service crew keeps replenishing with trays and trays of huge succulent oysters.
From the Cold Cuts section, the abalone slices and smoked duck are really good – robust flavours, slightly chewy and sweet. Fans of Agemono (fried dishes) should not miss the tempura moriawase, crabmeat with cheese and shishamo.
We love the lamb teriyaki, grilled salmon belly, scallops and squids. As for the sushis, most of their maki (rice rolls) and hand rolls are tasty and fresh. The hand rolls come wrapped in crunchy seaweed sheets and dripping with either ebikko or tobikko. My favourites are the seared salmon and unagi nigiri.
Sashimi moriawase – assorted fresh cuts of salmon, tuna, octopus and butterfish can be ordered repeatedly. They may not be the most premium cuts but still, decent enough.
The chawan mushi is also very good – smooth and piping hot. The baked oysters and scallops with cheese are insanely good and a very popular choice among diners there.
Service is good – although the restaurant is busy, the service crew are generally attentive and dishes ordered from the a la carte menu are served pretty promptly.

My favorite dishes were “gone”
Last Sunday went there for lunch, but they didn’t serve fresh oysters, no baby octopus, no more unagi slices, even the CLAM also is OUT
Totally disappointed

Oh, I’m so sorry they took out so many dishes! Oh dear, that’s not good news.
