Finally – there’s a decent western-style grill restaurant in Kota Kemuning! Hail ABANICO!
Abanico is a deli-style restaurant serving quality meats like Iberico pork, wagyu steaks, F1 Tomahawks, Miyazaki A5 as well as gourmet house-made sausages, Norwegian salmon, Japanese Ogatsu scallops, Miyagi oysters and other premium seafood. Owned and run by Chef Eric Siew (formerly the Executive Chef from DoubleTree Hilton Kuala Lumpur) and his lovely wife Han-Ni, Abanico is a welcome entry to Kota Kemuning’s dining scene.
The name “abanico” actually refers to the Iberico cut of meat which wraps the ribs. It is a thin piece, marbled with fats, that’s extremely tasty when grilled right – juicy and tender. Chef Eric does this perfectly, with just a sprinkling of sea salt to bring out the natural flavor of the meat. There’s a limited amount available, so be sure to order this signature cut.

Things are kept simple in Abanico. Customers choose their mains from the huge chiller, specify the done-ness of the meat and select the sides to go with that. The selection of side dishes, pastas, Chef’s specials and desserts are written on a board hung on the wall. Side dishes range from RM4.90 – RM9.90; salads RM9.90-RM11.90 (I love their Apple Coleslaw, sweet & crunchy, so addictive!), soups & specials RM7.90-RM9.90 while pasta dishes start at RM22.90. I like how flexible it is here – you can totally just have a slab of meat without any sides, if you so prefer.
While I mostly prefer to eat my medium-grilled meats with just a dash of sea salt, Chef Eric Siew does offer some specially-concocted sauces, like black pepper and mustard and possibly more for Chef’s specials.
Now here’s something that you should take note – for this Christmas, Chef Eric and his team will be serving their special Christmas Platter. At RM155 net per pax, the 4-course dinner is a very substantial offering of:
Appetiser: Ahi Tuna Tataki & Citrus Fennel Salad, laced with Pomegranate & Passionfruit Dressing
Soup: Caldo Verde – Portuguese Potato and Kale Soup with Spanish Pork Chorizo (robust flavours from the pork chorizo and very comforting)
Iberico Ribs marinated in Garlic and Shoyu
Roast Pork Belly Roulade
Sea Prawn Bombette
Black Truffle & Bacon Bratwurst
and choice of either Australian Grain-fed Sirloin Steak OR
Norwegian Salmon Fillet
Braised Brussel Sprouts & Carrots
Furikake Steak Fries
Sauces: Cognac Raisin Jus & Cumberland Sauce
Dessert: House-made Warm Apple Crumble with Creme Anglaise (buttery crumbly pastry encasing apple filling which is not too sweet and lightly fragranced with just a hint of cinnamon)
The above dishes are specially curated by Chef Eric Siew and are only available on the dates mentioned. What stands out is the unique bratwurst painstakingly curated by Chef Eric together with a German butcher/sausage maker to come up with a nice balance of pork, truffle and bacon flavours. The Prawn Bombette is made with 100% sea prawns for that exquisite sweet fresh taste. The tender Iberico Ribs and Pork Belly are faultless too.
It is a great feast, I tell you! Chef Eric just wants to ensure that every one who comes for this, will leave Abanico feeling immensely satisfied and satiated!
So, make your reservations early as seats are limited. The Christmas Platter is available only on 24 & 25 December 2018 and in anticipation of the festive time, there are 2 seatings:
5.30pm-7.30pm and 8.00pm-10.00pm.
