“Memory Makers” have made their appearances in Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur recently. What are they? They are a collection of new dishes specially created by the Traders Hotel’s culinary team, based on guests’ preferences and feedback over a period of time. It was truly a challenging test of skills and creativity for the culinary team. The task was pretty daunting – creating and fusing new dishes using new and nostalgic elements. Some dishes are refreshing new interpretations of old school … [Read more...]

IPOH’s “Kai Si Hor Fun” in RESTORAN GOODWILL, PUCHONG
When I was a kid, eating “kai si hor fun” was a treat. As far as I can remember, my father used to take us to the noodles stalls in Ipoh town for supper - it was either that famous stall under a tree along Cowan Street or at Lou Wong’s stall on Yau Tet Shin Street. Back then, Lou Wong was just a single stall, run by the two squabbling brothers. We hardly went to Thean Chun kopitiam in Ipoh Old Town because my father was never free to bring us there in the mornings. Anyway, fast forward many … [Read more...]
FAVOLA @ Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
During my recent trip to Kota Kinabalu, I had a chance to check out Favola at the Le Meridien. Freshly refurbished, the restaurant breathes warmth, modern charm and a certain rustic elegance in its ambience. It’s not a huge space, just comfortably cosy and can be as private as you want (there’s a nice private dining room in Favola too). Favola’s menu spells “modern and creative” Tuscany-style cuisine. With a wine list that boasts not less than 60 selections of Italian and … [Read more...]
Halal Seafood at KAYU MANIS, Bukit Jelutong
Tucked in the commercial centre of Bukit Jelutong, Kayu Manis Seafood Restaurant is one of the very few halal seafood restaurants in this area. Occupying a spacious corner lot, its unmistakable colourful purple-and-green interior can be glimpsed from the road in front. You can’t miss the vibrant colours of the restaurant! The bigger round tables are meant for larger dining groups while the square tables by the side cater to smaller groups. Live seafood are kept in tanks for diners to pick … [Read more...]
Fish Noodles @ WONG CHAU JUN RESTAURANT, PENANG
We needed a quick breakfast before heading back to KL and Wong Chau Jun popped into my mind. I’ve heard about their fish noodles and we were in the mood for something hot and soupy. Wong Chau Jun Restaurant, located along Rangoon Road is always busy but we were lucky that day as there were still a couple of tables available when we reached the place. It’s a typical local kopitiam with photos of their dishes all plastered on the walls. We ordered a bowl of their signature Spicy Sour … [Read more...]

Gaya Island Resort boasts of several dining options on its premise. Believe me, guests are quite spoilt for choices when it comes to food at the resort. Besides the regular offerings at the outlets, guests can also request for private dining should there be any celebration to be held or simply because they want a special dining experience. How about a Sunrise Breakfast, an Aqua Dinner, a Sinagang Steamboat or a personalised gourmet picnic? All these can be arranged with a day advance notice … [Read more...]
Catching up with CHEF WILL MEYRICK at MAMA SAN KUALA LUMPUR
The Streetfood Chef with a global attitude – that’s Will Meyrick. Will is happiest when he’s out at the street stalls and kitchens of local warungs cajoling the local cooks to part their culinary tips and secrets. Sometimes you can catch Will in the kitchens of his own restaurants, creating, cooking or generally just “seeing to things”. So, it was in the kitchen of Mama San Kuala Lumpur that I met Chef Will Meyrick while he was meticulously putting the finishing touches to some … [Read more...]
GAYA ISLAND RESORT – a perfect vacation spot, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
From the waterfront of Kota Kinabalu at Jesselton Point, you can see Gaya Island across the body of water. From the city jetty, it takes merely 5-10 minutes’ speedboat ride to reach the pristine sandy Malohom Bay where the stunning Gaya Island Resort resides. It was a bright and sunshiney day when we took the chartered Gaya Island Resort speedboat after a half hour rest at their check-in office in Jesselton Point. We were warmly welcomed at the resort jetty. The short walk … [Read more...]
BOBO Kuala Lumpur – latest intimate speakeasy venue in Bangsar!
When Ed Soo and his partners decided to add another F&B outlet into their stronghold in Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar, the question of naming it became a “headache”. Ed’s suggestion to name it “Bobo” was initially met with an iron wall from the others and long story short, somehow “Bobo” managed to get its way. It’s a catchy and easily remembered name and very often, people tend to ask “Just who or what is Bobo?” Yeah, so who or what is Bobo? Scroll down and you’ll find out… :-) Anyway, … [Read more...]
