Since Chef Paphatson Singhakhat joined Fa Ying several months ago, their kitchen has been bustling happily with the sounds, sights and tastes of their signature dishes being given a refreshing boost. Yes, the sweet-smiling, soft-spoken Chef O, as she prefers to be known, has been busy reinventing Fa Ying’s current popular dishes and also coming up with new exciting ones. Well, for the new dishes, guests will have to wait till September when they will be unveiled. Recently, I had a … [Read more...]

Thursday nights at Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya has never been the same since their Chinese restaurant, Ee Chinese Cuisine introduced a special menu there. For some reason, yes, it is Thursday and not any other night of the week. For some reason also, diners have always been packing Ee Chinese Cuisine on Thursday nights. Now they have an even better reason to do so because Master Chef Yong has come up with some Oldies-but-Goodies special items on the menu. Looking at the list, I couldn’t … [Read more...]
Four Points by Sheraton, Sandakan
I have never been to Sandakan and when an opportunity was presented to me recently to visit this town at the north-eastern tip of Sabah, of course I jumped at it. What more when it’s a chance to visit some of Sandakan’s famous sites, try its popular food and culinary delights but most of all, a chance to check out the Four Points by Sheraton, the only international hotel brand in the city. The skyline of Sandakan’s Central Business District is never the same again since the opening of … [Read more...]

Mooncake Delights – Ee Chinese Cuisine @ Eastin Hotel, Petaling Jaya
It’s really not too early to talk about and eat mooncakes. The Mid-Autumn Festival aka Mooncake Festival here (the latter sounds more appropriate since we don’t have autumn in Malaysia!) is still more than a month away. Although the actual festival date is on 19 September this year, mooncakes have already made their appearance weeks ago in many restaurants and hotels. Yes, these days the anticipation leading up to the festivals gets promoted earlier and earlier – it’s like everyone is trying to … [Read more...]
Orientica @ Hotel Equatorial Ho Chi Minh City
Take the lift to the 2nd Floor of the Hotel Equatorial in Ho Chi Minh City and when you enter Orientica Seafood Restaurant & Bar, you will be greeted by bold colours of red, silver and black – the predominant palette of its ultra-chic decor. All done and matched tastefully in a modern, stylish theme punctuated with bonsai plants silhouetted elegantly against the walls. Against this sleek backdrop, contemporary classy light fittings cast amber hues across the restaurant, further enhancing its … [Read more...]
The Burger Factory @ Kota Kemuning
I am not really a burger fan and certainly am not inclined to go out of my way to hunt for meat patties sandwiched in buns. I always associate burgers with fast food (and that’s not a food preference I place high up on my list) despite the recent craze on this fad where new burger joints have been sprouting up in the Klang Valley like mushrooms after rain (but really, has anyone ever seen mushrooms growing like that in this part of the world?!). Don’t get me wrong – I do enjoy the occasional … [Read more...]
Hotel Equatorial Ho Chi Minh City
When I was booking our airtickets to visit Vietnam, I was debating between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Since we have never been to Vietnam before, actually either city would be fine with us. We decided on HCMC due to its shorter flight time from Kuala Lumpur. Our flight was an early one and we landed in Tan Son Nhat International Airport at just after 8.00am (Vietnam time is 1 hour behind Malaysian time). Our airport pick-up from Hotel Equatorial was all ready for us when we exited … [Read more...]
Maison Francaise – be totally pampered by its Sunday Brunch!
Maison Francaise is one of those gem of a restaurant which, when you step into it, you immediately feel a rush of well-being, awe and comfort, all at once. Tucked in an almost secluded spot on a road very less-travelled (at least, for me… in fact, I didn’t even know such a road existed!) this charming French House – that’s what “Maison Francaise” means, is set to impress. I can’t help but be marvelled by the chic simplicity of the main dining area… the windows so prettily dressed with lacy … [Read more...]
Celebrate Raya with a New iPhone 5 from Celcom!
I can't believe that Hari Raya Aidilfitri is just round the corner! Where has the time flown? My Muslim friends have been fasting for 3 weeks now and next week they'll be celebrating Hari Raya. The streets and malls are full of Hari Raya goodies, from clothes, shoes to cakes and cookies. The Ramadhan bazaars are doing a roaring business every single day since the first day of fasting. With the festive season coming, I think one of the most important things to do is to stay connected with … [Read more...]
