Thursday nights at Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya has never been the same since their Chinese restaurant, Ee Chinese Cuisine introduced a special menu there. For some reason, yes, it is Thursday and not any other night of the week. For some reason also, diners have always been packing Ee Chinese Cuisine on Thursday nights.
Now they have an even better reason to do so because Master Chef Yong has come up with some Oldies-but-Goodies special items on the menu. Looking at the list, I couldn’t help feeling nostalgic because these are typical old-school comfort dishes that Chinese restaurants served many years ago. Favourites like Stewed Pork Knuckles, Chilled Chicken with Chinese Wine, Braised 8 Treasures Duck all bring back happy dining memories.
We sampled the Deluxe Twin Hot Combination which comprised a superbly executed Prawn Yam Puff and Bacon skewered on a Lemongrass. The layer of mashed yam encasing a bouncy prawn was soft and powdery, covered with light feather-like batter and deep-fried. Bacon and lemongrass is a match made in heaven – enough said.
Double-boiled Fish and Apples Soup was sweet and nourishing. It’s a tad on the salty side though – a little less salt would have scored more points with us.
Braised 8-Treasure Duck
Braised 8 Treasure Duck and Deep-fried Stuffed Boneless Chicken are 2 dishes that need tedious preparation. When the soft tender golden braised duck was snipped open, out tumbled a choice selection of cubed roast pork, lotus seeds, Chinese sausages, mushrooms, oysters and water chestnuts which had all their diverse flavours infused into the duck after hours of braising. Needless to say, the thick glistening sauce was to die for, so tasty it was!
Deep-fried Stuffed Boneless Chicken
The deep-fried stuffed boneless chicken with its colorful layers of fish paste, seaweed and salted eggyolks topped with crunchy almond flakes and golden chicken skin was a big hit. Who can resist all those sinfully good layers?
Stewed Tian Jin Cabbage with Dried Scallops and Mini Lotus Leaf Rice are stalwarts in Chinese banquets and the versions served in Ee Chinese Cuisine did not disappoint.
Dessert was a simple refreshing “tong sui” of Double-boiled Pear with American Figs.
These are just sample dishes and there are more in the menu selections. So, if you love such old-school authentic dishes, make your way over to Ee Chinese Cuisine before end of September when the promotion ends. It has been running since July.
To further set the mood for this nostalgic dining, guests will be serenaded by their J Musical Live Band who will be performing evergreen Chinese and English hits from the 1970’s and 80’s. The band will be performing 2 sets from 7.30pm-8.15pm and 8.45pm -9.30pm. Promotion starts from RM 30++ per portion.
