All-natural massage oils

During our stay at The Andaman, we got to experience the V Signature “Song of the Malay Rainforest” Ritual.  Yes, it does sound exotic and that’s not the reason this treatment won the “Harper’s Bazaar Spa Award 2012”.  It’s an award-winning treatment simply because it comprises a host of processes that use all-natural ingredients from the rainforest with healing and regeneration properties.  The entire treatment is inspired by the wisdom of Malay traditional healing culture using the healing power of plants and medicinal herbs.  The Malay Rainforest Ritual uses village remedies, blended with traditional home-made treatments and herbal remedies for purification, balance and regeneration.

Sit here for the Rendam-Rendam

The treatment started with the Rendam-Rendam, a spicy foot bath to release tension and soothe the feet.  We were then led into the massage room for the Malay Traditional Massage (Urut Melayu).  My therapist had amazingly strong fingers which worked their wonders on this deep tissue massage.  Smoothing lemongrass oil on my body, she used long kneading strokes with thumb and palm pressure focusing on the flow of blood in my veins and arteries.  I could feel the knots and tension easing in my limbs and back with each stroke.  In between invigorating and calming strokes, I was lulled into deep relaxation and almost fell asleep.

After the massage, we experienced the Regenerating Gamat Body Envelopment (Barut Gamat Awet Muda).  My entire body was firstly scrubbed with an aromatic blend of lemongrass, rice and kaffir lime.  The grainy paste did an excellent job of scrubbing and removing dead skin cells from my body.  This was followed by a wrap blend of powerful healing ingredients: gamat (sea cucumber), kencur, galangal and ground rice which promotes lymphatic drainage and detoxification.  I was told the gamat helps in regeneration of cells, bone, collagen and skin.  My hair was not left out – it got a pampering of – scalp massage with coconut oil and aloe vera!

Once the above healing ingredients have done their job, it was time to soak in the stone bath for the Cleansing Lime and Floral Bath (Mandi Bunga Mambang Sari).  A warm bath has been drawn and scattered into the water were kaffir limes, pandan leaves and betel leaves.  It was bliss soaking in that refreshing bath. In Malay tradition, lime is the tangible link to the forces of the spiritual world, so bathing in lime represents a symbolic relief of unwanted negative elements – I could almost feel my skin purging impurities while soaking in that citrusy bath.

After soaking in that cleansing bath for about 20 minutes, I towelled myself dry and got ready for the Mahsuri Glow Facial (Rawatan Seri Mahsuri).  Of course, all the “products” used for this facial were totally natural and fresh, in fact, most of which were from the local garden.  It began with a cleanser using a yogurt blend, followed by a lime and cucumber juice toner, then an almond and oatmeal scrub, a luxurious massage using raw organic coconut oil and finally a mask infused with avocado and cucumber.

When everything was rinsed off, I could feel my face has gone one shade smoother and tingling from all the natural goodness pampered onto it.  I felt like a million dollars :-)

The entire treatment took 3 hours and it’s priced at RM650.
