It’s the season for Yee Sang and grand feasting as the Lunar New Year draws near. Just a few more weeks to go and if you still are undecided over where to have a gathering and feast over good food, Ee Chinese Cuisine at the Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur is a recommended venue.
For years, I’ve been a fan of Executive Chef Alex Leong and his team’s culinary offerings. The Cantonese-focused cuisine served at Ee ranges from the very traditional to some with modern twists. For this Chinese New Year, right until 2 March 2018, various sumptuous festive set menus are available, starting from RM688 nett (4 pax) and table for 10 pax starts at RM1,988 nett.
A festive meal during this time cannot be complete without some “Lou Sang” and Ee’s yee sang comes with several choices: geoduck, abalone, salmon trout, white tuna, jelly fish, seabirds’ nest and even smoked duck starting from RM98 nett per serving.
Recently we had a tasting of various items picked from the Chinese New Year set menus. The dishes we had used premium quality ingredients, cooked with dedication (especially the double-boiled soups) and generally very well executed. Some of the ingredients had to be specially sourced, like the capon chicken which are hard to come by these days. Each of the gigantic capon weighs in around 5kg and half a bird is more than enough for 10 pax! Fed only with premium corn, the golden skin of the capon was thick with a wonderfully flavoursome texture. The meat too was delicious, having been splashed with some Chinese wine before serving.
Kudos to Chef Alex and his team for always being very mindful of quality and the food that comes out from their kitchen has been consistently good. So, pick up that phone and reserve your table before they are booked out!
