Take the lift to the 2nd Floor of the Hotel Equatorial in Ho Chi Minh City and when you enter Orientica Seafood Restaurant & Bar, you will be greeted by bold colours of red, silver and black – the predominant palette of its ultra-chic decor. All done and matched tastefully in a modern, stylish theme punctuated with bonsai plants silhouetted elegantly against the walls. Against this sleek backdrop, contemporary classy light fittings cast amber hues across the restaurant, further enhancing its … [Read more...]
Hotel Equatorial Ho Chi Minh City
When I was booking our airtickets to visit Vietnam, I was debating between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Since we have never been to Vietnam before, actually either city would be fine with us. We decided on HCMC due to its shorter flight time from Kuala Lumpur. Our flight was an early one and we landed in Tan Son Nhat International Airport at just after 8.00am (Vietnam time is 1 hour behind Malaysian time). Our airport pick-up from Hotel Equatorial was all ready for us when we exited … [Read more...]
Maison Francaise – be totally pampered by its Sunday Brunch!
Maison Francaise is one of those gem of a restaurant which, when you step into it, you immediately feel a rush of well-being, awe and comfort, all at once. Tucked in an almost secluded spot on a road very less-travelled (at least, for me… in fact, I didn’t even know such a road existed!) this charming French House – that’s what “Maison Francaise” means, is set to impress. I can’t help but be marvelled by the chic simplicity of the main dining area… the windows so prettily dressed with lacy … [Read more...]
Mediteca – Mediterranean Wine, Deli & Tapas Bar, Kuala Lumpur
When I heard that Mediteca has introduced a pork-friendly Mediterranean menu recently, I knew it’s time to check it out. “Pork-friendly” certainly sounds like music to the ears of porcine lovers and it was also incentive enough for me to brave the infamous city traffic crawls for dinner there recently. Mediteca is located right in the core of the Golden Triangle, in Fraser’s Place, along Jalan Perak. It’s not hard to locate actually… you can see the restaurant from street level – it’s right … [Read more...]
Dim Sum Brunch at The Emperor, Dorsett Grand Subang
Sundays and public holidays are meant for leisurely meals when one wakes up late. These are about the only days we get to sleep in for a bit and by the time we are up, it’s time to go look for a good meal somewhere. We’ve heard that The Emperor in Dorsett Grand Subang serves a pretty good spread of Dim Sum and we headed there one Sunday not too long ago. Located on the Mezzanine Floor of Dorsett Grand Subang, we crossed a little bridge before entering the main dining area. All … [Read more...]

Pampered by Ploy’s Special Selections
Chef Daniel Yong of Ploy tells me how he often has to go through meticulous food testings and tastings before finalizing a dish on their menu. Thanks to the sterling food benchmark set by Datuk Jared Lim, owner of Ploy, you can be sure that every item listed on the menu has gone through much refinement before it is allowed to be served. There is a section in the menu which lists several special dishes which are designed for a pampered meal. With ingredients like abalones, truffle dressing … [Read more...]
Watami – a Grand Feast of Exciting New Dishes!
Watami Japanese Casual Dining Restaurant recently caused quite a stir in the dining scene when it introduced its new pork menu and on top of that, added 20 new dishes originating from Tokyo into its burgeoning grand menu. The 20 dishes make up only a quarter of new additions to the existing menu available in all 3 of its Klang Valley outlets – now you know what I mean by its “burgeoning” menu! I got a taste of most of the new dishes introduced recently. As Nelson Wang (Vice-President of … [Read more...]
Ramadhan Buffet at Kelantan Delights
There’s no denying that Kelantan Delights serves some of the best Kelantanese dishes around here in the Klang Valley. Needless to say, their Ramadhan buffet is one which I look forward to, having first tasted it in 2011. Their Ramadhan spread showcases all their signature dishes and it’s a great opportunity to savour all the scrumptious Kelantanese delights under one roof in one seating – if you have the capability to do so! Nasi Dagang Laksam This year, with a new culinary … [Read more...]
Seenak Sajian Tradisi Desa for Ramadhan @ Kitchen Art Brasserie, Empire Hotel Subang
The thing I enjoy most about Ramadhan buffets is that I get to enjoy authentic traditional Malay dishes. Most establishments offering Berbuka Puasa feasts usually go out of their way to ensure that well-loved local Malay cuisine is featured. That’s exactly what Kitchen Art Brasserie at the Empire Hotel Subang is doing for this Ramadhan. Diners get to feast on an array of wholesome dishes – the selection numbers more than 50 delicious items. It may not sound like a lot, as compared to … [Read more...]
