Do you know where the first Bulgogi Brothers restaurant is located in Korea? Why, where else but in Gangnam! Yes, everyone knows where Gangnam is now, thanks to Psy. The 1st Bulgogi Brothers restaurant was opened in 2006 in Gangnam, south of Seoul. From there, it mushroomed to 46 outlets all over South Korea including 1 in Canada and 4 in the Philippines. It’s no wonder then that this quintessential Korean restaurant has gained an almost cult-like status in Korea. So, what is Bulgogi? It … [Read more...]

Even though I have been to Lai Po Heen at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur several times, each time I step in, I’m always riveted by the sight of the chefs bustling around in the see-through kitchen right next to the restaurant entrance. I really can’t help it… the sight of those white-clad busy illustrious chefs deep-frying, deftly cutting, slicing and preparing all those delicious-looking stuff… those scenes really build up the anticipation for the coming meal at this gorgeous … [Read more...]
Ti Chen @ The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur
If you, like me, have never been to Ti Chen – the Chinese restaurant of The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur, you may find it a bit confusing to locate it. It’s actually located in the Saujana Golf & Country Club. Walk up a flight of stairs and you will see the entrance of the restaurant on your right. Newly refurbished, Ti Chen now spots lots of rich red and black tones in the furniture and walls. Ornate oriental-style carved wood panels, shimmery drapes and bright red lanterns hang from the … [Read more...]

Spanish Inspired Wine Dinner at The Restaurant @ The Club Saujana Resort
The Restaurant at The Club Saujana Resort hosted a special Spanish Inspired Wine Dinner recently to introduce some impeccable wines from some of the best wineries in Spain. Sipping some excellent cava at the lounge while waiting for dinner to start, I was once again impressed by the elegant and classy surroundings (read about my first visit here). Through the intermittent closing and opening of the glass doors as guests walked out onto the terrace, I was lulled by the soothing sounds of … [Read more...]
Renoma Cafe Gallery @ Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur
Is it a gallery? Is it a café? Is it a fashion lifestyle store? Those are usually the questions people ask when they step into Renoma Café Gallery – that spanking new establishment with the bright red Renoma sign along Jalan Bukit Bintang, diagonally across the Prince Court Medical Centre. Actually, the answer is: All of the above! Private Kitchen – Hong Kong-style Cuisine, Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya
Like the name implies, it all started with a group of foodies who just wanted to get together to cook good food and eat good food. After a while, people got to know about this and that’s how the cosy Private Kitchen became a restaurant, tucked in a middle lot in that crazily busy place called Damansara Uptown. With the kitchen helmed by Chef Lam Fai, who hails from Hong Kong and the front-of-house run by the energetic Jacqui Yap, Private Kitchen has been pretty busy dishing out delicious … [Read more...]

“Bring Me Food” @ Tosca in DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur
I like the concept of “Bring Me Food” that’s being introduced at Tosca in DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur. I mean, who wouldn’t like that, right? Bringing someone food must surely be one of the best things to do, especially to food lovers! It’s kinda like the Japanese Omakase concept. Basically that means “I’ll leave it up to you” and in this case, it means leaving it to the chef to cook whatever he fancies for that meal. To some, it may be a bit risky for who knows what the chef could be up … [Read more...]
Hairy delights at Di Wei Chinese Cuisine Restaurant, Empire Subang
Every year from September to October or early November, the Shanghainese Hairy Crabs make an appearance in many Chinese restaurants. Known also as “mitten crabs” (due to the furry growth on their legs and pincers), these hairy crustaceans are prized for their thick creamy roe and delicate flesh. The most prized catches are those that come from Lake Yangcheng and Lake Tai in Suzhou. It takes 2 years before the crabs are fully grown and ready for the table. An authentic hairy crab should have a … [Read more...]
