This Monkey Year that’s coming soon – I heard it’s a happening and bouncy one as it’s been called a “Red Monkey” as well as a “Fire Monkey”. Whatever the description, as long as it brings prosperity, happiness and good health, I’m good.
So, we were off to some prosperous beginnings at Toh Yuen Chinese Restaurant at the Hilton Petaling Jaya recently. Their Chinese Executive Chef Ben Lim unveiled their array of specially crafted pork-free Cantonese specialities to welcome the fiery Monkey.
As we settled ourselves in the elegant and serene restaurant which was recently refurbished, we marvelled at the elaborate Prosperity Yee Sang complete with an image of the Fiery Monkey assembled with various food ingredients. It reminded me of the “kolam” decorations commonly done for Deepavali. It took Chef Ben several hours to work out the intricate lines and design of the monkey and this is one of the most creatively-presented Yee Sang I’ve ever seen this year.
Prosperity Yee Sang with Salmon. Other options are Jelly Fish, Abalones or Snow Pears
There are 3 celebratory Chinese New Year menus priced from RM1,688 nett (Everlasting Happiness Set) to RM2,188 nett (Sea of Prosperity Set) for 10 pax. Vegetarian options are also available upon request.
Recently, we had a preview of some of the special dishes curated by Chef Ben and his team. The dishes were selected from “Everlasting Happiness” and “Sea of Prosperity” sets.
Double-boiled Fish Maw Soup with Black Mushrooms & Dried Scallops
Steamed Imperial Chicken with Chinese Herbs & Sea Moss – super tender, tasty and that aroma is to die for!
Steamed Pomfret Teochew-style
Deep-fried Prawns with Lemon Mayonnaise Sauce – all peeled and easy to eat!
Stewed Whole Abalones with Australian Sea Cucumber & Sea Moss
