After a long day of fasting, there’s nothing more welcoming than breaking the fast with a bowl of steaming delicious rice porridge. Besides the traditional Bubur Lambuk, this year the chefs at Chatz Brasserie are cooking 18 types of porridge for their Ramadhan Selera Kampung. The clay pots are all lined up in one corner – lift the lids and you will be greeted with the lovely aromas of lobster porridge, bubur menguh Bali, bubur isi ketam and a whole lot more.
Malaysian kampung cuisine is the mainstay of the Ramadhan buffet. The food counters are laden with wides choices of kerabu, BBQ whole lamb, grilled fish & seafood, ayam percik Iftar, western favourites and local desserts.
Nostalgic kampung dishes like ikan masin lemak nenas, kari telur ikan sentul, rendang paru dan hati, ayam kuzi, daging kerutub, udang lemak belimbing and sayur manis masak lemak putih keledek are just some of the golden oldies lined up.
The insanely aromatic nasi briyani is divine, especially when eaten with their ayam percik Iftar. I was told the chefs marinate the chicken with special spices a day earlier to allow enough time for the spices to penetrate through.
I love the action counters, particularly the grilled seafood counter. The Famous Noodles station features favourites like mee rebus, asam laksa, Laksa Johor and prawn mee. I never miss the Indian food station either as the roti canai, murtabak and capati are really good with their vegetable dalcha and chicken curry.
You will see the chefs busy grilling satay at the outdoor stalls – be sure to wait for the freshly grilled satay. Succulent and tender, their chicken, beef and lamb satay are to die for.
At the centre of attraction is the BBQ whole lamb, perfectly tender and served with black pepper, mushroom and barbecue sauces.
If you still have stomach space, go for the chicken rice, fried lobak, keropok lekor, dim sum, baked oysters and seafood thermidor. Oh don’t forget the desserts: sago gula melaka, kuih cara berlada, seri muka, tepung pelita, badak berendam, kuih lopes and even durian ice cream are all there to tempt you.
